Looking to install a pretty basic remote start on my truck this weekend. Its a 2006 Harley F350 6.0. Looking for any tips, wiring diagrams, or anything else that could help me out. I assume all the wiring I will need access to is under the dash?

Thanks!

Do it! It should be pretty str8 forward if u have simple understanding of electronics and vehicle diagram. :thumb:

That's a fact, I have a Viper 5000 I think but regardless I needed the gizmo programmer to setup start delay timing on it. It was a major project to say the least. Guy I had install mine spent 7 hours on it. He puts in alarms for dealerships new cars and he said it was by far the worst to do he ever saw.

My advice is have it installed.

Took atleast 7 hours when they did mine
About 5 fax bax with DEI (who wont talk to customers ) and i had to go back a second day

Now this was years ago. But it was the largest instaler in AZ

The problem they had was the truck would remote start and die

I think most items can be programmed with button input. But the Bitwritter is worth owning
iMO

I dont fear electronics. But when i did mine
I had taken that alarm out of my GM and it had 3 seperate GM compatability modules from DEI

If i ran in to a situation where i needed one
I was going to be without a truck while i waited on the mail order module.

Plus they charged 45 bucks. Since i had bought it from them originally

And good luck getting DEI warranty anything for a DIY guy

It is pretty easy to program these things on the truck withouth the bitwriter. I programmed wait to start for 15 seconds. It's more than enough even in the coldest conditions.

Let me just say
The12volt.com
Is a handy website once you learn to navigate it
They have wiring colors

Tips and write ups

Although i had mine installed. They used scotchlocks. Somthing Dei does not endorse.
So i went back through and re did the install

And added the tailgate and toolbox to the system along with a pop lock programmed to the fob so one button opened the toolbox

A good alarm remote start sure makes the daily grind a little more bearable specially since a 6.7
Is not in my future. Those lucky guys have plug and play remote start /smart start / options from ford. And i Think it is a DEI product

I second the the12volt.com as a great source of information for vehicle wiring.

I can start my truck sitting on the $hitter in the next state over from my phone. Bet Fords new trucks can't do that. Plus I can see where my truck is at on the phone.
It is nice to warm up the truck before getting in it. Guy that did my alarm soldered every connection.

I was going to install mine. Glad I didn't after seeing it done.

Update:

Got everything just about wired up. Horn and parking lights flash, remote is programmed etc, however the remote start does not work.

Everywhere online says to use the green/white tach wire behind the parking brake release. I am getting 28VAC at idle and around 3VAC with the engine not running from that wire. My remote start instructions say "You should see between 1-4VAC at idle." So, my remote start does not work and the error code I am getting is "Engine is already running" which makes sense, since the unit is seeing between 1-4VAC. Any tips? Do I need one of those tach inverters? Any other wires I should use?

These trucks are very difficult to setup from what I've been told. Took all day before mine was done. I remember there being a problem setting up delay start. Having the crank delayed so glow plugs could heat up. There's a hunk a chunk of wires coming off of my little alarm box.
Good Luck with the install, they are not easy to do.

Not nearly as hard as people made it out to be. Probably 2 hours yesterday and an hour troubleshooting today on the tach input. Ended up using the "voltage sense" on the alternator stator wire and she fires right up every time. Only thing I have noticed is that after she fires up I get a TBC fault on the odometer and an ABS light. I read an older post that said that some remote starts with a delay start longer than 10 seconds will trigger this. Mine is set at 12. No big deal, just kind of weird. It goes away upon inserting the key and hitting the brake pedal.

Look for a (LG/WH) wire labeled CTO (clean tach output) it will be near the bundle of wires that dead end for the upfitters and wires that pass through the firewall. That is the wire I used on my 05' for my compustar system.
