this has just started recently, when the truck is cold and im taking off from a light it will pour out white/blue smoke. it stops once you get going but if you stop at another light and take off it will dump the smoke on the take off again. it will also smoke you out while waiting at the light.

once im fully up to temp it wont do it anymore.

any thoughts?

dont have one:)

lets throw this out there

lets say i have this "friend" who just happens to have a ccv re-route. and lets say this friend hasnt empited it in a long time (never), and when drained today about 1/4 cup of oil came out.

could this have caused/be causing the issue.

Dude. You need to hurry up and find the answer. It seems that many of us have the "smoke" issue going on only mine is ONLY at take off, not while Im driving and it doesnt matter what the temp outside is. Truck runs fine, gas mileage is appropriate and Im not losing coolant. Keep us posted with the results and if you ended up using the Rev-X. Good luck.....

mine did same thing blue smoke at take off gas milage good no losing coolant did headgasket job and took bout 500 mies to clear up now only smokes in morning
Here's my two cents on the subject......

It's the valve guides and/or seals. Here's why.

My truck does it. 06 with just shy of 140K on it now (Sept 2013). Been smoking for the last year and a half or so. Mine started randomly and got worse. I was running a CCV mod at the time. I swapped turbos, changed tunes, changed brands of oil, nothing changed the smoke. At this point it smoked all the time at idle. Just for giggles I popped a CCV line off, letting it vent to atmosphere, and it instantly quit smoking. If I put my thumb over the vent line it would instantly shoot a 5 inch column of white smoke out of the tailpipe. What I determined, is that my guides and/or seals are worn to the point that it oil smokes because the CCV pressure takes the path of least resistance. I currently have mine plumbed back into the inlet hose and it smokes like a freight train until the oil temp gets above 150* and is gone completely above 180*. I'll do my heads one day and either prove or disprove my theory.

Of the guys that smoke, how many have deleted their cats? I suspect the additional heat in the converter is able to burn the oil at a high enough of a temp to render the smoke invisible.

Edit....
I never lose any coolant. My oil level never drops enough to have to add. I have zero performance issues, starts good cold, starts good hot, never skips or misses. My fuel mileage is very consistant.

crank case vent

instead of the oily air from the crank going directly into the turbo, it re-routes it to a catch can where it is scrubbed and then sent back. i didnt empty if for almost a year and think that may have been causing the smoke.

CCV mod wont cure it if it goes away when the truck gets to operating temp.

Check your FICM voltage. What oil are you running? What are ambient temps?

got my laptop battery last night so i can check the voltage, temps dont seem to have any affect on it. it will smoke when its cold first thing in the am (20-30's) and do the exact same thing leaving work in the afternoon (50's).

oil is rotella t6 5w40

Ambient temps? What tune is loaded?

SO from the crank case to a catch can then to turbo? so wouldn't that oil help lubricate the turbo and make it last longer? or does it just cause the Intercooler to block up ? Well now I am thinking, i just cleaned my intake manifold the other day ( Hot pressure washer, steam nozzle first then rinse, then parts cleaner, repeat 3-4 times. i assumed all that black stuff came from the EGR but i guess the oil could make its way all the way around and contribute to the the nastiness in there. where do i get one of these CCV mods, is there a kit. may need 2 i got to go look at the 7.3 and see it it needs one too.

No need for a CCV mod
