Hey guys just looking for some input on your 6.0 gas mileage with/without mods. Got my bone stock 05 last week and my mpg average has been horrible with at least 50-60% of my driving being highway im averaging 11.5-12.5 mpg?!?!

Sounds pretty low, last week on a 600 mile trip I averaged 18.7 hand calculated with the truck in my sig (minus the mud terrains, I had the small factory ones on, looked funny but helped with the ride and mpg's lol) That being said, around town I usually average 14 or 15 with my regular 38's on. I attribute alot of that to my sct though, without it who knows what I would be getting :eek:hnoes:

I bought my 05 last year and was my first. i thought it was a little sluggy. I am mechanically inclined on n/a but diesel is a different story. My first mod was a programer to see what was going on. Found that egt's were slightly high and eot was slightly high. mileage was running around 12-14 on freeway. truck is lifted on 35's, deep down i knew there was something wrong. drove for 3months and got worse over time 7-10 mpg's. took it dealer and the problem was #4 injector was toasted. replaced the whole side since i was in there. and vwahla 18-22 depending if i am behind someone all day long!!!! runs like a champ:thumb: that was my solution may not be yours, have your injector checked around 100 bucks for scan they will tell you what one and what side

Well stock I got maybe 13 50/50 driving...really sucked and the lifted it and got about 12.5 on stock tuning. Srl tuning alone got me an average of 2/city 3/ highway once the honeymoon period was over. Currently I'm gettin 14.5 city and around 19hwy running Wildmans race tune. You can get very similar mileage with the looney wild but the Wildman gets better city mileage so I run that

My truck is an '07 DRW TowBoss with 4.30 gears and stock 245/75R17 tires:

Stock: 10-12.5 city, 13.8-14.6 interstate
IDP Street: 11-13 city, 15-16 interstate
IDP X-Race: 11-13.5 city, 15.2-16.5 interstate

Only mods that factor into the mileage for me, 5" Exhaust (3.5" DP, Cat and Muffler on board) and the SCT tuner - Studded files from IDP. Stock Air Filter.

Next on my list is an efficient MTW turbo, and some FICM tuning.

Biggest effects I find are clean fluids and filters, and driving it to save fuel. However you still need the occasional WOT run to fully cycle the VGT vanes, and clear out the intake manifold and EGR cooler (which I do about twice a week).

If i reset my mpg calculator while on the freeway its about 16-17 for my average 15 mile commute, havent reset it for just around town driving yet but maybe its that bad that it could drop it to an average of 12

yeah never trust that computer, always hand calculate for most accurate results :thumb:

Stock tires, average 40-50 MPH i'm getting 15.5 MPG

Nevermind it dropped again and now im driving around town like a grandma to keep it at 12 but you guys are right because my fuel level isnt really relating to the computer, next fillup ill do a more accurate calculation.

I have a 04 F350 DRW with an 8' service box weighing about 9100lbs. I've averaged 14.7 mpg over 4823 miles so far. That calculating on fully.com AND on my Scangauge II. It says my average speed per tank runs between 35 and 40 mph. I drive sensible about 75% of the time. The rest is WOT and running PTO air compressor.

Even with using my truck for work pulling a 7x14 enclosed(6k lbs), i have an ownership average of around 15.5mpg. If i manage a whole week empty w/o the trailer i get about 17. I also get a little over 20 on the highway if i can set the cruise and keep it under 2k rpms.

The worse I've ever gotten was in the winter, with my trailer hooked all week and that was still 11 something mpg.

I'm running Looney with a 5 inch exhaust and I average about 15.5-16 running around the backroads and the occasional trip to town. Stock I was getting 13.5-14.5. Towing I get 14+... I have no clue how people get 18+ out of these trucks. Even on long trips setting my cruise I've only ever gotten 17. These aren't the the best as far as fuel economy... but considering they weigh 8k, its not too bad.

Let me ask you this did you a couple questions.

1 did you buy this from a dealer
2 do you hear the turbo vanes cycle when idling hot every so often. you should hear a deep rumble from time to time.

if you hear the deep rumber from time to time you have the lastest flash from ford. The strategy is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be but the updated FICM code well sucks. you would need to update your FICM programing via a ficm tuner from ID or PHP to cure mpg issues. Now this is taking into account every other part on the truck is in good working order. I personaly see 12.5mpg city with the lastest ecm and FICM flash from ford. updated with a FICM tune from ID and it jumped to 14.5 city same as my old ecm/ficm code from ford. Also get a good set of hand calculated numbers next time you fill up.

bought it from a dealer im actually taking it there tomorrow since my rear passenger side brake was smoking and extremely hot last week and today i found out my emergency brake doesn't even work so i think there's some relation there. While its there im going to tell them about the mpg and if they could check the injectors? im also getting a slight shake in the steering wheel at 55mph+.

These trucks are notorious for seized calipers. My 05 has had two sets on the rear in 5 years. :(

The e-brake being stuck might be an issue.

I would only take it to the dealer if its under warranty. Dying injectors can also cause poor fuel mileage.

Shake in the wheel could be as simple as out of balance tires or balljoints/hubs/etc. if its a constant shake is lean towards it just being a tire, the front end parts usually rear their ugly heads by getting a nasty shake in the wheel over bumps.

Also one thing i noticed with the stock goodyears was if they werent at the full 65psi they were flimsy and caused a shimmy over bumps in the front end that was gone with full air pressure and now with my BFG's that are rated at 3900lbs/ea its non-existent.

My Diesel uses virtually no " Gas " LOL
^^WINNING^^

i average 15 with more city driving than hwy. only mod is a 4" MBRP turbo back.. also to avoid turbo problems you might not want to baby your truck for the best mileage. these stock turbos need to be exercised regularly to avoid problems. that means put the pedal down hard occasionally.:thumb:

I get about 18 with the truck in my sig and i drive it like a hot rod.

My truck has a stock tune/tires, cat, no egr..............I average 19-22 hwy and 10.5 towing my travel trailer...............I also live in a mountainous area.
