It's been raining for days in a row, so I finally decided to do a dome light defeat. On the 05, it was just a matter of pulling fuse #35 at the dash. The hood light was still working, so I pulled that as well. The switchable domes and everything else still works that I could think of to test. The owner manual has this fuse description as "instrument cluster". The gauges and backlight for them still work. Appears to be an error in the manual so far.

The cigarette lighter by the ashtray was also intermittently working. I was able to pull the tray down and get the connector loose. Gave everything a shot of deoxit D5 and that seems to be good for now.

The auto locking hubs seem to be done for. Had to get out and manually lock them today and recent past. I'm guessing that this would be a vacuum seal at the hub?

Did a full service. Just over 10k miles since I rebuilt the motor. Everything looks good. I put together/built a 2 micron bypass oil filtration system. Went together pretty well and looks clean. I've been doing oil samples at 2500 intervals to see how the motor was seating all together and I am hoping that I can extend my OCI's a bit with the bypass to save some money. But if not, oh well.

Couple of photos of my bypass setup. There is a .030" orofice in the outlet side of the filter housing I made to limit the flow yet keep pressures up in the filter.

You've probably gotten it fixed by now, my guess is the vacuum seal or line.

I had my vacuum line actually melt shut and the vacuum from the pump would not reach the hub. Since vacuum was being produced, the dash 4 WD still went on and i had no indication that the 4 WD was not working. Only found it after inspecting the vacuum line from the pump all the way to the vacuum hubs. In my case I had 3 wheel drive.

Just been getting my feet dirty and manually lock when I need to use it. Biggest issue is that I will forget to unlock them. I've seen a diy smoke machine made from pvc pipe and thought was brilliant for troubleshooting all sorts of issues.

I will check those areas you mentioned before assuming a hub leak. Dash light does turn on.

Been trying to get my lower radiator hose connection to stop leaking for the last couple of evenings......will stop then drip randomly. Going to throw a new hose on it tomorrow and see what happens.

Finally got a buddy's 04 back together. 141k, 1 owner and oil changes always done with Motorcraft 5w40 and Motorcraft filters. Came to me with oil in the coolant and running rough. Installed a new hpop, oil cooler, BPD radiator and FICM and a metric ton of other parts and pieces......and a trans service as i don't think that had ever been done. Between the new oil cooler, hpop and some Archoil in with a fresh oil change she's singing beautifully. One of the cleanest 20 year old engines I've ever worked on.

Little rear brake action yesterday. Started out as simple rotors and pads turned into new calipers. Found a cracked piston on the right rear so replaced both calipers. Then went to install the pads from Powerstop....only to find out they were the wrong pads in the right box. Gotta call them tomorrow and sort that mess out. But here's Black Betty up on the lift with no shoes on...

Im lucky to have access to an auto skills center on my local military base. Lifts ain't mine lol. Makes life easier though, that's for sure.

Those auto hobby shops are becoming less and less. I’m worried that ours will shut down so few customers.

They won’t let me lift my truck on their 20 year old lifts anymore.

I was at Keesler AFB last summer visiting mt stepson. Same thing there. Demand is so small there, only open on weekends,

I remember as a kid growing up on military basis my dad always go into those cause you could rent tools and you know use everything they had and leave the mess there. Well, you know what I mean but yeah, that was awesome too much of a liability these days
I also think the fix it yourself mentality is disappearing. The on base woodshops are worst off. Where I'm at, there's one of five wood shops left in the Air Force, and its only opened three days a week.

@ChrisSki Thanks for the little nudge in inspiring me to have a further look.

The vacuum solenoid for the hubs is mounted above the vacuum pump and reservoir on the passenger side, inner fender. I lightly tapped it a couple dozen times with a freshly calibrated, diagnostics hammer. I think we are back in action! I can feel the front end loading up with the steering fully locked to one side. Time will tell how long it keeps working.

Hey ya'all been awhile since I've been here. Washed my Ex today. Fass fuel pump/filters awhile back, tank level sensor at same time. Been a rough year plus for me but alive and still kicking and loving my 6.0
