Pre-arbitration documents on a $10020.87 credit card dispute with J&K Engines was finally awarded to me on 11/14/2024 after receiving TWO DEFECTIVE 6.4 engines and J&K sticking me with over $10 grand in cost to install and uninstall the first one and partially install the second engine plus sending both of them back states, “Customer has provided proof from another merchant which was also attached showing the merchandise received was defective.” “The merchant’s dispute documents received do not prove that the merchant complied with VISA’s guidelines.”
On 01/24/2024, I ordered a 6.4 with lots of components totaling $19229.00. The first engine blew up in the test drive in May. The second engine would not rotate without a pry bar to rotate it manually past a stiff spot in the presence of 4 witnesses at least. Jack Cammarata advised me he had never had 2 bad engines in a row and offered to tow my truck to Tennessee to install at his expense telling us the installer was doing something wrong and he would do this when he got his first engine back. J&K initiated shipping on 07/15/2024 for engine two and said there was nothing wrong with it once it arrived back at J&K and that the installer had installed the front cover wrong. The email I sent to J&K on 07/12/2024 specified in detail that the glow plugs were out and the front cover was off while manually rotating. I witnessed and tried to rotate this engine myself.
Jack Cammarata didn’t initiate shipping for the 1st engine until 07/30/2024 (about 10 days before the 120 day deadline to dispute a credit card). Engine one arrived at J & K on 08/01/2024. On 08/05/2024, (Just shy of 120 days), I emailed to confirm our agreement of install and the email response was I would have to get the damaged front cover from engine one blowup to send back to move forward and Jack had determined the first engine was oil starved and that it would be up to me to get my truck out to move forward. I had already paid for the first install and the memo on the check stated it was for J&K’s bad engine as J&K had initially agreed to pay a reduced rate to install the second engine. On 08/15/2024, my wife called and talked to Anthony Cammarata to tell him the damaged front cover was being shipped that day. Anthony tells my wife, Katrina Mintz (CONTACT PERSON FOR THIS TRANSACTION) that J&K was just going to ship the second engine back to us and that it will not be warrantied. My wife tells Anthony we will need a diagnostic report on the engines since they have just stuck us with 2 enormous bills for sending our core in and running the 2 engines in and out. Anthony then says they have not torn it down yet but we will get a thorough report. If J&K had not torn down engine one on 08/15/2024, how did Jack proclaim oil starvation from an improper install on 08/05/2024??? So my wife starts calling around for other mechanics to install and turns out, we couldn’t find any diesel shops in North Georgia that were willing to install J&K’s engine. Jack didn’t call when he got the front cover back. I had to call him and he eventually told me the installer installed both engines wrong and to go sue him. Of course, this is past 120 days on the credit card and it took a while for J&K to get any report together in which he only put words in the first few drafts.
On 08/26/24, my wife told Jack we needed diagnostics and that his words meant nothing since there were verifiable emails and witnesses to the lies on J&K’s report. J&K stated at the end of the report that KG Diesel should buy me a new engine. J&K is not for the working man. This was my service truck I made a living with for years. On 08/28/2024, we finally got some pictures and a couple of lines about the 2 engines after begging via phone and email to send them. It included verifiable lies also.
After reviewing J&K’s report and KG Diesel’s report and a few emails, an expert diesel mechanic states in his expert opinion regarding engine TWO, “Given the conflicts contained in the J&K report indicating the front cover was on having the stiff spot and the email sent to J&K by Timber Equipment on 07/12/2024 indicating the front cover was off having a stiff spot, I believe there was an internal issue with this engine also.” An unbiased third opinion by a professional engine shop of engine one which blew up during the test drive states, “I feel that the engine failure was actually caused by a Distorted Crank/Mainline.” “Based on the picture of the bearings that you sent, it’s pretty clear that the center bearing is showing the most wear and is working outwards, with the outer bearing showing the least amount of wear.” Opinion was cited sourced Diesel Engine Failure Analysis / DFC Diesel. A distorted crankcase gives the appearance in the bearings of accelerated wear on both the upper and lower shells, usually originating in the center main working outwards.” “When rebuilding the engine, the block should have been line honed.”
We clawed back $13625.87 between 2 credit cards but Jack put a bunch of effort into trying to get me to go along with blaming my installer for his bad products. He asked my wife, “ Do you want your reports?” on 08/26/2024 when she was pointing out discrepancies. Jack expected us to go away with nothing and he called and left a message for my wife saying our credit card dispute was not going to work and we needed to call him so he could tell us why. We were lucky to have an email promising the return of an engine and J&K didn’t put much in writing. I had to get the shipping information from KG Diesel because it was the first thing the bank wanted in the dispute. It seems like J&K would want to provide shipping information but that would have interfered with J&K’s customer knowing they only initiated shipping for 1 engine on 07/15/2024 rather than both as Jack has tried to say. I only got shipping info from J&K for the first engine.
I don’t believe most of the other reviews on J&K. Be careful who you hand over your financial information. FOR YOUR INFORMATION, ON DEFECTIVE OR NOT AS DESCRIBED MERCHANDISE, YOU HAVE 540 DAYS TO DISPUTE BUT IT NEEDS TO BE WITHIN 60 DAYS OF DISCOVERING My call to J&K Engines was the worst business decision I’ve ever made. J&K ended up with a way better extra block than what they sent me. This sure was not the experience portrayed online. Jack Cammarata and Anthony Cammarata told lie after lie after lie. I think they both enjoyed it. J&K Engines is the most dishonest business I’ve ever had dealings. The engine shop owner that gave me his unbiased opinion on the blown up motor stands by that opinion. Don't do it.
