I just bought a 06 ford f 250 6.0 I am looking for a engine monitoring system for my truck I want to monitor the fuel pressure volts trams temp and the pyro temps pretty much everything I can I was looking at the edge cts and cs will this monitor do everything I want and what all do I need to get what I want thanks for the help everyone.

yes it will monitor those parameters but you have to have the EAS for them and the EGT probe as well as a fuel pressure sensor sending unit for the cs/cts or any other monitor or gauge setup you choose to go with.

You need to monitor the EOT,ECT,FP,EGT more so than anything else.

If you have an iPhone,iPod touch, or an iPad you can get the dashboss monitoring system for $180 without the EGT setup and it will monitor everything that the PCM in the truck will monitor and if you want to monitor the EGT's and FP then you can add on to the system.

The same capabilities with the edge insight cts will run you around $600 after the EAS plus the FP sending unit and EGT probe.

I recommend you start reading the Monitoring thread sticky in the General 6.0L section, its also linked in my sig.

I really like the Edge Insight CS in my truck, the CTS has a couple of extra features I didn't require.

If you have any questions, let me know.

I like the Insight CS, though I augment it with Autometer gauges for a few extras it can be set up to monitor everything a 6.0L needs to. Easy to set up and install, easy to read 8 PIDs at one time.

I find the Dash Boss's reliance on another device a liability, as with wireless communications with the truck. 20 PIDs, can easily lead to information overload, it doesn't need to be that complicated.

The ScangaugeII is simply too basic, and requires a little knowledge and adjustment to get it to watch what you want it to.

I like the look of aftermarket gauges, but its too expensive to run a full setup, and you won't be able to monitor FICM voltage, or pull DTCs like the Insight.

Is that the level of feedback you are looking for tigger19?

the Scangauge does not look as pretty as the others, true; but it provides information from the truck's OBDII port just like any monitor, and has more things it can watch than the Edge products.

If you can only get one tool, the AutoEnginuity with Ford bundle is the only one that will always do everything you want. It runs on a laptop. The rest are good monitors but not very good code readers, and what they look like is the biggest difference between them. Well that and how much they cost.

That is exactly what I am looking for so pretty much the best bet would be the edge monitor for reliability. Which is what I am looking for I don't want somthing that tell me somthing and it be wrong because of overload or it freezes up I hope I can get a few more responses so I can truly make a good judgement call money not the issue I want something that I can relie on and be easie to operate and tell me the correct info when I need it thanks for the reply I have already gotten

For what it's worth, I would abandon either of those. I use a Kiwi OBD2 to BT adapter and Torque on my phones and tablet to do logging. I can log anything that the OBD and CAN monitor, as well as I have the portability and future-proofing of always being able to update the software or use other software options, as well as I can take the reader and adapter to my other vehicles if/when I want or need to. Plus, I can log everything to CSV or KML files with GPS data so I can track not only what happens on a trip but where. It even got me out of a ticket once because I was able to prove that I wasn't speeding.

Not a fan of any phone or tablet app at this time, here's why I say this: the additional device is a liability - you find it forgotten, lost, or stolen - you're out a monitor.
The other side of it, depending on the area you're traveling's texting laws, it can easily be seen by the LEO your distracted by a device. As well as some of these are displaying upto 20 PIDs at once, with few exception drivers, that can become an information overload.

As for the CS vs CTS debate, its a matter of perferance as both will display a max of 8 PIDs. The CTS has a larger touch screen, and the ability to have a back up cammera. I run a CS.

If you really want data logging, I like the AE software via a laptop. This is something I'm looking into now, to add to my truck for modification testing, and troubleshooting.

It sounds like u can't monitor while driving by your self with the autoenginuity system and that what I am looking for is to be able to monitor while driving. I drive over 690 mile 9 hour from work to home twice a month so I want to know what this truck is doin and be able to catch a problem before it starts I also haul a 29ft two slide fifth wheel when we go camping and I also haul a 28ft homage fifth wheel race car trailer every weekend just to give u guys alittle insight on what this truck does on a regular basic thanks for your guys input I will be putting head studs in forsure

Really there isn't much difference between the 4 monitors that have been mentioned. Some can monitor not than others. Yes there is the downfall of loosing or breaking your apple device for the dashboss setup and it is able to monitor more than 20 parameters at a time but it is just as accurate as the edge cs/cts for a 1/3 of the cost.

Personally I don't care for the scangauge it looks to primitive for my tastes however it is just as accurate as the others but it cannot monitor fuel pressure or egts there is no way to add on to it like you can the edge and dashboss.

This is where I really like the dashboss as it is A LOT cheaper to add on the fuel pressure and pyrometer to the system. I have analog gauges so I don't need any of the monitors to read those two parameters I only need it for all the others that my gauges don't monitor. You can change the screen display on the dashboss to read out 4-8 at a time or you can change it to digital number readout where it will display 12 pid's on the screen at a time.

As for the laws if the phone is in some type of holder and no being pissed with constantly the LEO's can't say or do squat to you about it. They could just as easily make the argument that an edge or scangauge is equally distracting to the driver.

So far I like it I plug it into my bod II port and it is all Hinden out of the way no screens to mount or have to figure out how to mount it so no one thinks it is a navigation and breaks into your truck to steal it it does everything I want it to and more just by looking at my phone and it didn't cost me and arm and a leg to buy thank for the good product and the advise

I love my dashboss. I went through the same thing the OP did. So many choices and I went with the dashboss because it was easy, inexpensive and expandable. Plus I "might" be a hooker for apple LOL
