TSC (Tractor supply) has 2.5 gallon jugs of their Travler 15w40 diesel oil on sale for $18.00 per jug. Anyone know who makes this Oil?

I haven't looked at a jug, I just saw the ad today. I doubt it will list the actual manufacturer. For an axample, lets say it said shell, would you pay more for rotella when they made travler and sold it soooo much cheaper?

I think its a Cenex/ Citgo product

Anyone know how it holds up to the shearing our injectors subject oil too?

hahahhahahhaha

why?
My powerstroke has had dino Rotella in it every 10k for the last 1.38 million miles and it is completely original minus the turbo.

$53.50 changed at Walmart with a motocraft filter.

I agree on using good oil but this may be good oil. Just because it's bottled for TSC doesn't make it cheap oil. I've heard stories of companies like mobil filling their own bottles with Mobile 1, stopping the conveyor to load another brands bottle and filling them with the same stuff. I'm just trying to find out if that's the case here.

Let me ask you guys this; if that was the case and this oil was actually say Valvoline Blue or Shell Rotella would you still not buy it becasue it said travler on the label??

Who actually produces this stuff??

I have worked in and around manufacturing and can tell you that in many cases there is absolutely no difference other than the label on the can. Paint strippers are a prime example or labeling changes. Another is hand cleaners. They change the colorant and one of the conditioners and sell it as a wholly different product.

Look for the industry certifications on the label. Ours requires specific certification and I believe it is a CJ-4 designation. I'm sure someone will correct me on that if I'm wrong.

My question: How many actually manufacter their "own" oil?

My answer: Not that many, most are "private labeled" in my opinion. The name by itself does not indicate "quality".

OK, so if it meets "all" the standards necessary and it has an "off" name, then it should be considered a bad oil?

I doubt the few manufactuers will stop the production line and drain the lines of "their" high quality product to introduce some "cheap" oil. I do think brand name oil is more expensive due to marketing costs, etc.

ive had good luck with valvoline and thats why i use it over the rotella for example.

truck just seems to run better with it and the person that recommended it to me has been using it since he bought his truck brand new in 05, with almost 150k on his truck he has never had to replace an injector. imo thats good oil
