What does a Injector Job Cost?

Hi All,

I just grabbed my truck from getting worked on at the Diesel Shop in CT...I was talking with the owner Fred, real nice guy and got on the subject of injectors.

I know just for injectors can be pricey, but what would I be looking at price wise to have a job like that done?

Would I have to upgrade more stuff if I was to do that or can I stay with what I have done already to the truck which is in my SIG.

Any thoughts, may try to start slowly saving for this and people have said its like night and day once a job like that is done.

Thanks for the help...:thumb:

I would love to be able to do them myself, problem is I dont know what I would be looking for if there was a problem while I am doing them...I dont own a garage and have just bang around tools...A buddy of mine has some stuff and we could tackle it in his garage, I guess biggest thing that would worry myself is that if I screw something up somehow, and drive down the road and boom haha crap hits the fan...

I am all about learning and doing stuff, but it would be nice to do it with a guy who could teach me as I do the work.

Youtube can only show and explain so much.

I just did the injectors on my 6.0 last weekend. It's not hard just time consuming. My biggest advice go with remanufactured injectors from Ford. Absolutely no one else. I had a shop put in the last set and they only lasted 1 year before 2 failed and the rest were marginal. Then a year later they were all bad. I had my truck tested by Ford and Gillett diesel and both say nothing in my truck was causing the failure. The extra cost to go with Ford injectors is minimal if you print a Costco 15% off coupon and use that. I did all injuctors, dummy plugs and stand pipes for just under $2k. Gillett quoted me $300 each side to do the injectors but I decided to do it myself.

I would say that depends on what shop they sub'd the rebuild to or what shop they bought the reman's from. If and when I need injectors (might be soon as mine have 285k and I get 11mpg in town) I would not hesitate to order injectors from the guys that are very commonly mentioned on here.

First of all. Comparing the 6.0 to the 7.3 is not even close.

Who did you buy your injectors from that failed anyway?

Thats why I stated mine was a 6.0 not a 7.3. Injectors are different but do the same thing and some similar traits.
I don't know the shop got them from.
If I did I would gladly warn you. If you know someone you would recommend go ahead. I'm simply stating what I found from doing my homework.

well to do it yourself.

it cost a 6 or 12 pack and a dinner for a buddy if you like company. or something shiny for your wife/girlfriend if you want her to keep company....

at a shop your looking at roughly 4-6 hrs depending if the guy knows what he is doing

He hasn't even asked about what builder to use. So I did t offer any info on that. There isn't any need any thread asking what injector builder to use goes the same way

He asked about physically changing them out, which I did respond to at the start of this thread...

Also take notice he asked if he would have to change anything on his truck. If he planned on going with stock injectors why would he think he'd need to change stuff? Ford doesn't make performance injectors.

OP- As far as changing stuff on your truck goes, single shots REQUIRE custom tunes. Even if you go bigger and retain the split shot I personally would still get retuned (might still REQUIRE it idk) Unless you get some serious power sticks I think your current set up should be fine.

What kind of HP you looking for? I really like swamps injectors, I had a set of 175/146 and really liked them, im currently running 250/200 FF injectors while with them there are different supporting mods that need to be done. As for going to ford for injectors your gonna be paying more money for a stock injector and still have a split shot, ditch the split shot and go with a single shot. Price I would be looking to spend around $2000 injectors and installation

Planning on injectors this summer, would love to do it myself with a coworker. Time isn't an issue nor garage space (12 car bay). Any special tools needed? And bout how long time wise. Ive been looking at Swamps injectors as well but not sure which to get. I'm go. A do a 38r soon as well as a upgraded tranny to support!
