Well, I bit the bullet and ordered a KC Jetfire Stage 1 and RCD 155/30 injectors…..what to expect?

I’ve had some injector issues on and off over the last two years….ever since I jelled up my fuel and started them for fuel pressure. That, and my oem turbo is getting pretty pitted and rusty and I was getting tired of taking it apart and cleaning it every couple of years.

So….after I had an injector completely fail on the way home from a camper trip last weekend, I finally bit the bullet and ordered the IDP “towing package” that comes with the KC Stage 1 Jetfire turbo, RCD 155/30 injectors, and free tune revisions.

I’m currently running an IDP towing tune……what kind of power/torque increases should I see from the new turbo and injectors? I’ve heard that I need to stay away from running a hot street type tune with the stage 1 and 155/30’s because the stock transmission can’t handle it…..any truth to it?

This is mainly a truck that tows my 6K camper, and 5K boat…..that’s about it.

My main goal is to have something that’s going to be reliable…..the added power is just icing on the cake.

Awesome! That will be fun. You will gain 56hp and 110lbft torque on tow tune. I could be wrong😁. You will have more power everywhere. Easier taking off and climbing hills. Depending on the miles, the trans could have issues on a hot tune, but if you don't abuse it and let it re learn you might be ok.

I installed a PI of NH billet converter that I got from CNCFab when I installed my KDD long block. I run KC stage 1 with 175/30’s on the WD street tune daily, even when towing, and my transmission handles it just fine. I think you will be ok.

Well....got the new turbo and injectors installed over the weekend.

A couple of things I've noticed right off the bat.....

1. That Stage 1 Jetfire 10blade turbo isn't as loud as I would have thought at idle...not much louder than my stock turbo. It screams once you get on the throttle thought.

2. The motor requires much less boost now while just cruising down the highway at 70mph....around 5psi where with the stock turbo it was around 10psi. The MPG display on the dash shows around 28mpg while cruising at 70mph on the highway....I'm sure that can't be right. I will have to run the numbers when I fill up next.

3. Overall, the truck seems to make quite a bit more power. There is just a slight bit of lag from the turbo, but not enough to hardly notice it.

4. When off the gas and just coasting to a stop, the truck goes into this really choppy high idle, and then when you are rolling to a stop, it smooths out and sounds normal. I read that it's pretty common with the 155/30 injectors where they plug the dump ports on the injector? I've reached out to Innovative to see if there is something they can change on the tune to smooth it out.

Overall I'm pretty happy with things.....I'm excited to pull my camper soon and see how it does.

It's not. Jokingly, I made a similar comment about 10 years ago. The reality is the truck doesn't measure fuel flow against speed or distance, so the nozzles will have a significant affect on what you see on the dash. Normally, with 30% over nozzles the reading isn't that high, but the tune may use false numbers that would further skew the ECU computation of dash mpg.

The plugged ports will create a more choppy idle.
