Anyone using another brand of water pump other than BPD? I searched on here and it looks like everyone is using BPD. Also anyone replacing the idler pulleys and belt tensioner when replacing water pump? I figure that I'm in there, trucks got 130,600 miles so i figured new upper/lower rad hoses, new serpentine belt. Anything else, am I missing anything? Gonna do a VC9 flush also, can I do that with the leaking pump and then just replace when done or should I replace the pump first then flush. Gonna be selling my IPR coolant filter if anyone is interested, she'll be ready for the mail next weekend after I get done with everything. Thanks.....

I have a Dieselsite. Metal impeller blades and OEM everything else (according to Dieselsite). I've had no problems with it.

How long have you had it installed, miles/years? At $115 bucks its hard to beat if it last another 100,000miles.....

Most of us use the bpd water pump because it's by far the best you can buy. If you do a chemical flush I see a new oil cooler in your future, so you might as well get one of those from bpd too.
If you have a bearing Shop local you can rebuild all your pulleys for just a few bucks.
I don't doubt that BPD is the best money can buy, I just wonder if it's 3 times better because I can buy 3 diesel site water pumps for the price of one BPD delivered to my door. Does the BPD pump provide any more volume with cooling by moving more coolant or is it just a sexier looking water pump that does the same job as an OEM that I got 130,000 miles out of? Not trying to be a pr@%# just really wondering if the BPD pump is that much better. How many of you running them are getting 200,000 miles on them and still going strong? Thanks....

I am replacing stock wp that came on the truck and has 180,000 miles on it with a new , not rebuilt ford wp. I have pulled 10,000+ trailer loads in 100 deg heat with the ac on and never had a cooling issue. I am replacing all the original idler pulleys and tensioners with new motorcraft ones. both belts and all hoses are original and i am replacing them with new motorcraft ones.

I've had the dieselsite water pump in 2 trucks now. It's like a sore pecker, you can't beat it

So "pecker" is okay, too.

I think that - in general - the ORG CoC isn't very rigid.

My point about hobby or not as much legal as anything. It also wasn't specific to you, @portcity_gt . It would've been better to say that your phrasing reminded me of a point.

Some folks on here are professional haulers. Some folks on here use their truck six times a year to haul their boat to the lake. That's quite a range.

Those who use their trucks professionally have different demands on the vehicle and budgets for the vehicle. My comment was simply that - for the guy with the boat - buying an OEM water pump AND a new radiator AND new belts for the cost of just a water pump may be the better choice.

This discussion is not new here, of course. ...and not specific to water pumps. Is a Rolex better than a Timex? Sure. If "better" means better built. Is the Rolex the better value for everyone? Nope. Not for those who want to know what time it is, anyway.

@djmaguire I understood your point and agree with it wholeheartedly. BPD is going to get pushed hard here, it's just the way it is. I personally do not need a water pump that will "outlast" my truck, especially if I can get one for a third the price that will last "as long" as the truck or even just a couple hundred thousand miles like the stock one. Water pumps ain't that hard to change.

That said, my livelihood is not dependent on my truck. If it were, the BPD pump would certainly be an option to me. I think this is in line to the point you were trying to make.

I definitely fall into that category, but I've also got 180k on (what I assume to be) the original water pump. There are other steel impeller options now as well. There is little doubt in my mind that if I were to install a BPD water pump, the truck would literally rot down around it before the pump failed and I could move it to my next 6.0. I'm just not sure "I NEED" one that's "THAT GOOD".

The OP's original question was "Anyone using another brand of water pump other than BPD?". By that, I'd guess he had a pretty good idea of what kind of quality he'd get with a BPD pump but was looking for options. Somehow, as most threads that have a reference to BPD parts do, it got turned into a "it's BPD or your wasting your money" thread. <<That might be a stretch, but I see it heading there.

OP, if you want the BEST available water pump for your 6.0 and you can afford and justify it, get the BPD pump, you will not be sorry. If you can't really justify it then, IMO, you just need to decide between the Dieselsite option with the metal impeller or straight OEM. I would definitely take a look at the idlers and tensioner pulleys while in that far. Replacing or repairing what's necessary, but I wouldn't just replace them because I was in there. A new belt and hoses are kinda no-brainers in my book.

Just ordered a new Dieselsite water pump for $152 too my door in Western Wy from FLA including shipping, should be here Wednesday...... The customer service was great, lifetime warranty on the WP for me the original purchaser. Steel impeller. Just FYI a new OEM replacement from Tousely was 170.51 not including shipping. I am really impressed with some of the BPD products I see, I just cannot see spending that kind of money for the branding. If they we not 3 times their competitors pricing, I could see myself spending a little more, just not 3 times more. Thanks for all who replied to this post, your input was valuable in my decision making. Keeping my fingers crossed for a sunny weekend to get this done so I don't have to dance between the snow fall.

Are you the guy I spaced out and put a 7.3L on the order for? :p
That mouse button gets a little ahead of itself sometimes....

In general, I prefer to do things once.

So I research and find the best part, then do all of the general maintenance while in that area.

It all depends on what your time is worth, especially if its a part that could leave you stranded or harm other parts.

...and I agree with that 110%. You routinely drag 5 crap-tons of stuff through Chicago streets. ...and, as glamorous as those particular neighborhoods are ( o_O ), the $250 pre-tax price spread is not worth a failure. I agree.

I also agree with @G8orFord. His situation - as @Patriot astutely acknowledged in his last three words - is different. It's more like mine, I would guess.

With the way he monitors and lower inherent risks he faces, he did what was right for him. It's just a balance of cost and performance.

The only thing that I'm opposed to is the one-way-or-the-highway attitude. Because... [cue music] we need to stand up against cyber bullying whenever and wherever we can. ...and water pump shaming is the worst form of cyber bullying, ever! ...

well all i know is the cardboard cogulator that runs the tin foil flute-in-nanny valve blode all two pee says last knight sew i'm gonna get a reglued juan. I do use edelbrock water pumps on my 396W ford stroker in my 65 roadrace mustang. but thats because it was designed for higher than stock rpm roadracing and is a tad lighter and holds up way better than the old rebuilt crap or the new cheap crap but thats a different application. i use performance friction Z brake pads on all 4 calipers on my F350 cause they stop better than the factory pads. so ia all depends on which depends are needed and better for the application. on another note i did but the 08 tow mirrors cause they have a larger lower convex, and i bought the chrome package grill in 06 when it was $150.00 from ford, and i had a friend with a body shop buy the smooth above the bumper cover and paint it white in exchange for some electrical work. so it depends on the depends.

No offense man, but that was a hard read. :poke

I think I got most of it, but I gotta say, the first sentence (?) had me reeling. I finally got "blode all two pee says" but I'm still working on "cardboard cogulator". I hope Jaun holds together this time after the regluing.

I just got back from a Napa store. The sales guy ordered me 2 water pumps for my early 2004 truck: one new, the other - reman. Both had plastic impellers. I guess the only option is to get the BPD one since the dieselsite's ones for the early 2004s come with plastic impellers (at least per the picture on their web site).

We got a early model with a billet aluminum impeller in testing right now. It'll be identical to the later model we sell with the steel impeller except it will be billet aluminum. OE water pump with upgraded impeller, will probably have the same warranty as the rest of our pumps. Quite a way off from production though so BDP is still a great option I'll keep suggesting to customers.

Currently driving the 03 it's in right now... can confirm truck hasn't exploded yet so testing appears to be going well.
