Tow Command - Want to Add

Hi Folks,

A few months ago, I bought my new-to-me F250. Love the thing, love the way it tows. It is a MONSTER! When I bought it, it had everything I wanted except tow command. I installed an extra brake controller I had, but really wanted the integrated brake controller in the first place.

I remember reading here somewhere (and I did a search without much success) that it is possible - perhaps expensive and difficult but possible - to install tow command in a vehicle that doesn't have it. Has anyone actually done this? How involved is it and what might it cost? Thanks!

Incidentally, the local dealership told me that it cannot be done under any circumstance. But, they have been wrong before.

My mistake was driving a friends 2006 with the Tow Command. It was much smoother.

I have an 05 and wanting to do the same. So I called the ford parts at a dealership its 505 and some change for the brake controller kit ( i dont know if that includes the upfitters as well, cause it would be right in the same location). That also doesnt include instalation of it. If someone wants to chime in if its easy to install or not. I feel that is a bit pricey just to have the integrated, but I don't know. Thought I would fill you in on my research as well :thumb:

pretty sure you have to get a new brake booster too,

I am interested in this as well. I believe you have to put in a new brake master cylinder and have the dealer program your instrument cluster.

You need the controller, wiring, master cylinder and a PCM reprogram for it to work properly.

ugh thats to much work! any suggestions on good brake controllers?

I think it's worth it. You'll end up with a cleaner look. I think I'll do it someday, as well as add upfitter switches. For aftermarket brake controllers, i hear a lot of people say Tekonsha Prodigys and P3s are the best.

The TowCommand TBC is basically made of three major components; the in-dash TBC module, a special TowCommand master cylinder with a brake pressure transducer, and an activated PCM (Powertrain Control Module) parameter by a Ford dealer's NGS or WDS programming method. All 2005 and newer Ford Super Duty trucks are already pre-wired for the TBC from the factory, no matter if the TBC option was ordered and installed at the time of the trucks assembly or not.

I just got this done today on my 05 f250 for 405 installed. Youll be good
