Torque PRO APP exactly which PIDS??

ok i've got the app, pick up my adapter tomorrow for the post office, going to see a truck on tuesday.

i've searched for about 2 hours now on here and on the web.
and no one lists exactly what PIDS they are using, and there are numerous PIDS for the same thing(ie:different coolant pids and about 5 diff. fuel pressure pids) I assume this is for the different vehicles. seems everyone is like just load another one until it works, but they never say which one they ended up loading,..((my pet peeve of forums...)))

and of course all of the screen shots they show have custom titles....

I want a pretty exact list of which PIDS will work on the 6.0l. and which PIDS i should install for the test drive. i've got the 3 FICM pids, and found one(1) post saying which engine oil temp PID to load for the 6.0.
so far I have
all three FICMs,

yeah I get home to my 6.0 in a month that I haven't been able to drive for 6 months and want to know what I need to do to get the correct pids

Steps to unlock the Ford specific PIDs:

Open Torque

Once on the main screen, choose "Settings"

Scroll down to "Manage Extra PIDs/Sensors"

Select "Add Predefined Set"

Select your first option "Ford (Incl Powerstroke)"

Bam. Every PID specific to our trucks.

I have a few on my screen that I monitor and worked good while I was test driving the truck I bought:

Speed (GPS)
Injection Control Pressure
Engine Load
VGT Duty Cylce
Transmission Fluid Temp (Method 2)
Intake Air Temperature
FICM Main Power
Engine Oil Temp
Engine Coolant Temperature
Engine Load
Injector Pulse Width
IPR %Injector Pressure Regulator Duty Cycle
Battery Voltage
Turbo Boost


Some guys use Exhaust Back Pressure and Intake manifold pressure too. These are the PID's that are in the list when you add a display.

Yes and no, with Torque you cannot monitor fuel pressure or EGT.

That's what I was going to say. Yes it is cheaper to use, but you can't get the addons such as EGT or Fuel Pressure. Edge also has nice setups to mount it to the dash. I may look into getting a CTS someday, just not right now.

No. It can only monitor what the ECM monitors. The ECM doesn't read normal oil pressure. The gauge on the cluster is little more than an idiot light, it doesn't give any sort of accurate pressure reading, only that there is at least 5 psi, or something like that. I don't remember the exact "switch" point.

If you want to be able to read the actual oil pressure you will have to install a sending unit and either a standard analog gauge or use the CTS or Livewire TS.
UPDATE:
The above quotes are not entirely accurate, at least not anymore. I mentioned earlier in this thread that I thought it WAS possible to get EGT and fuel pressure displayed in Torque and I have now, finally, proved it to myself. However, it is specific to one OBDII adapter manufactuer. PLX is the only manufacturer that I know of that has the devices to allow it.

You will need the PLX Kiwi2 BT (or wifi) adapter, the companion iMFD adapter and the sensors and modules for EGT and fuel pressure. It cost me a little over $300 shpped, but that's still considerably less than the CTS2 monitor alone.

The iMFD adapter isn't shown in this pic, but that's all that's missing.


The actual sensors are installed just like you would for any other system, so I won't go into that procedure. There are plenty of sources for those installations. The biggest difference is that the sensor outputs are then routed to the module boxes supplied and daisy chained together (up to 32 of them:yikes:) with the first one in the line being plugged to the iMFD adapter attached to the Kiwi2. The modules require a 12v power source which I accomplished with an add-a-circuit and a 5 amp fuse to power both module boxes I installed.



I cleaned it up a little after that pic. The black box on the bottom is an inverter I already had mounted and it all sits in my little console extension I built for my tablet to sit on.

The wiring for the sensors and modules is pretty well explained in the instructions and is fairly straightforward, so I won't detail that either.

Once it's all connected and you've paired the Kiwi2, you add the gauges just like you would add the native ones except that they show up in the PID list like this:





You should notice that there are 2 fuel pressure PIDs showing. The module is capable of adding another pressure sensor. I plan to get another one and plumb it into the engine oil pressure, or possibly coolant pressure.

I should note that the PID updates I get from the Kiwi2 are not as fast as with my Scantool.net adapter which is basically realtime. With the Kiwi2 it's more like 1.5 to 2 second intervals. Still acceptable to me, but maybe not everyone. Also, I have gotten a little shaded message on the screen a couple of times that says "Faulty OBDII adapter", though I haven't seen any issues, except once. I lost EOT one time, but restarting the app solved the problem. I will probably contact PLX and/or Torque (Ian) to find out more about this if it continues. The only other issue I have with this setup is that the Kiwi2 turns itself off after a few minutes and you have to turn it on manually the next time you start the truck. My Scantool.net adapter is automatic.

Awesome write up @thebierguy. I bought the tourqe app and this past weekend plunged and got a smokin deal on a 2006 F350 Lariat, love the truck, but didnt want to spend the $650 on the edge cts monitorwhen I got an unused android phone collecting dust that I can plug a charger to and use that as my monitoring system.

That raises a question, essentially you can purchase a bluetooth OBDII adapter and buy the tourqe app and that will be close to what edge CTS does, right? Aside from tuning your truck, it will display same information. Am i thinking straight?

Does anyone else have issue with the boost gauge only reading to 21 then it goes crazy? I have the max set to 40.
Mine does the same thing, goes to 21, then starts reporting it as vacuum instead of boost. I was told once that it was because I have the limits set incorrectly. Then, I did as you did and set the limits much higher and still no change on the display.

The boost gauge has been fixed. Make sure you have the latest update on the app then delete the old Boost gauge and rename the "Ford Specific Boost" that is now in our Ford Extended PID set, which shows up with a gauge name of MAP, to "Boost" and use it instead. Some folks will be fine with the name MAP, to each their own, but the new one doesn't do the weird Boost to Vacuum back to Boost flip flop under full boost like the other one does.

I used a OBD-II to Bluetooth Adapter form Scan Tool.net, came with some decent software, but nothing on par with Autoenginuity Software.

ScanTool now has a samller unit that is power sensing and will shut off by itself.

My current "dongle" is turned off by a setting within the TOURQE APP.

I still like the app quite a bit and for the cost it's very good. It's within a degree of my SCT X4 and IMO far easier to use as a digital gauge.

I'm using this ODB2 device:

Works great, only downside is it's a bit large and does not work well in my other vehicles but in the Excursion it's not an issue since there is so much space around the steering wheel.

There are so many things to look for on the 6.0. Main thing is FICM voltage, which should be 48. Mine would hover between 47.5 and 48.5. Also Oil and Coolant temps are vital. You want them to be within a 15 degree delta. If it gets more than that there is a very good chance the oil cooler is clogged. When I bought my 03 Ex home the oil was a good 25 degrees hotter just driving it on the highway. I deleted my EGR, replaced the cooler, installed a coolant filter and flushed the cooling system a million times, my delta's were perfect. Rarely more than 10 degrees even when pulling my travel trailer.
