I have no plans at this time to swap out my engine, but what I'm wondering
is if/when the time comes that my 6.4L dies and I need a new engine, is their a Cummins Diesel engine that can be installed into a 2008 F-250?

What he said because if you have inspections your truck will not pass either way so you might as well just put money into the 6.4 and it will have double the power of the cummins and be basically bullet proof where the cummins you would be throwing down some serious $$$

Is this a joke?

not a joke... a lot of people appreciate and recognize the strength and reliability of the 6.7 Cummins. Including FORD!!!!!!! Which is why it was available in the Ford F650-850 when the 6.4 Powerstroke WASN'T!!!!!

to discount the viability of the Cummins is just blind foolishness

But, converting a 6.4 equipped super duty is an expensive undertaking. It's one of those things where if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't do it

Yeah, I thought so. It's a joke.

I drive a 6.7 cummins 400-500miles a day delivering tires its not that they are more reliable, but they are a whole he'll of alot cheaper. Easier to maintain and cheaper to maintain. That being said I wouldn't buy one over the 6.4. If you maintain and mod a 6.4 properly it will eat the cummins alive. If you want a truck you just put fuel in and drive get a cummins. They are pretty tough, but too loud and now I can finally say after 10yrs to slow!!! Lol at least its a diesel.

Because they are still under contract with cummins. Ford has been using cummins engines since the 70s

Was for quite awhile but if cummins didn't do some revamping they will decline big time. By that I mean do something to keep up with the competition. As far as pickups go ford and gm are on top right now. If ford keeps a solid product out they will be strong, even with the 6.0 probs ford still manages out selling the other brands. I think we will probably see a cummins with a different fuel system soon maybe a bigger pump don't know but id def. Like to see the old school straight six hang around awhile. I really wish I only had to change oil every 10k lol I miss that.

Cummins isn't going anywhere. They met 2010 emissions in 2007. They're on top of their game. They have the superior I6 layout. Gives plenty of room under the hood for any necessary changes.

I know everybody thinks I'm a Cummins guy or a Dodge guy... I'm not an anything guy. I appreciate quality and value no matter whose name is on it.

I absolutely love my Ford, but I started buying Cummins trucks after countless Ford vehicles because the Cummins offered the best quality and value. I bought my current Ford because it was the best quality and value for me :D

drunk on diesel your a lot about a cummins haha. i will say the 12v cummins runs a close race to me with the best sounding diesel with of course a 6.0 but as far as reliability you cant go wrong with them. they run forever with no maintanace. but good lord the truck they put them in are so ugly haha and they are just uncomfortable to ride in. i just could not put my self to spending that much money on a truck just cause i love the engine when i hate the outside. thats why i bought a 6.0 and love it. it has been just as reliable as my 97 5.9 cummins and has more miles then the cummins. not saying at all that the 6.0 is as good as a cummins cause the probabaly the best diesel motor ever made but my 6.0 has out lasted a cummins so far and i think that is something to brag about haha

A cummins guy I can handle but a dodge guy, I don't see how. Honestly a tundra is built better then a ram. You herd anything about a smaller cummins going in 1/2 tons? I herd a rumor just curious.

#35 · (Edited)
I've been hearing that rumor for years, but haven't seen one yet. I had always heard that Cummins makes a smaller version of the 5.9 (or at least they used to) that would be perfect for 1/2 ton trucks. If they were to do that, they would sell like hot cakes. Just sayin'.

well, I'm not a dodge guy, and I like Toyota pickups! LOL

I wish the economy hadn't taken a dump. I think we would have 1/2 ton diesel offerings from all of the big 3 if it hadn't :(
Oh come on Forrest. :tard:

Is it true that cummins is going to urea in 2013?

#29 ·
I thought they already did,

#32 ·
I am pretty sure i read that all cummins trucks will be going to urea in 2013.

Fords got a diesel ranger coming out but not here in the US

also I'd put a DT360 in my truck before I'd ever think about puttin a cummins in there

Just drop a cat c-7 in there and call it a day! We put those motors through hell in the military MRAP's and never had a problem. Had one where they drove it for several hours with no coolant... Got hot enough to melt the plastic on the injector plugs! Changed the injector harness under the valve cover, filled up the coolant, and change the oil in a couple hours and it was right back out on the road. 400hp and 1000 ft-lb of torque and it gets around 23 mpg in a 25,000 lb truck...

Caterpillar finally some one says it. My all time favorite slow but powerfully love it the sound of them things. Id take a cat or a detroit over a cummins anyway. Just think how rich w e would be if we had a fool proof oil leak stop for the ole detroits!

Probably, but this thread has been all over the place. Just saying that some cummins equipped trucks do have urea...
