Steering box adjustment

Bought an 07 F250 4x4 last week. Sitting still it's almost impossible to turn the steering wheel, especially to the right. It's fine driving, anyway having other work done by a diesel shop and I mentioned it to them. They said they would check the PS pump. He called and said the pump was fine, apparently someone had tightened the gear box. My question is can I undo what's been done? Will it help any? Thanks

if the box was out of adjustment and too tight I do not think it would work fine moving vs static
and it would not matter right or left

that being said you can turn the adjuster counter clockwise but be warned thats not a procedure you will find in any real manuals the proper method for setting lash is on a bench or with everything disconnected and on the truck

kinda surprised they did not offer to loosen it 1/4 turn and see if it improved

Four wheel drive?? also check the front u-joints for binding
I have seen them that barely will steer because of a bound joint

Are your tires inflated to the proper PSI? that can make a huge difference. Also if you have bigger tires, this can make it harder to turn also. Everything I've read on adjusting those indicates it leads to more problems. The way I understand it is as such. As you adjust the gear mesh at small steering wheel angles, it may improve. However the gear mesh at more extreme angles will suffer, because that part of the gear isn't as worn.

I have an 07 also with 256k miles on it. I had the same issue, could barely turn the wheel. In fact on pavement I really had to be moving to turn it. Mine also had a daed spot. After putting on a CARDONE brand gear from Rock auto my steering was night and day. The wheel got a lot easier to turn and my wandering/dead spot went away. I wanted a Red Head, but they're just too expensive.

Its not fun, but you can do it yourself if you're handy.

I sucked the fluid out of mine and refilled with new oil, night and day difference. Before doing this, I couldn't turn the wheel without moving, now it dry steers like a dream.

OK, but letting the pump squirt the fluid into a 2 liter bottle is pretty easy also
