Hey there from Australia,

Have a project 1997 PS auto OBS i purchased as a non runner. Got her going after a pcm and a few sensors etc!

Went for a shake down today after sorting out what was important for safety etc...

Anyway, od light flash, no speed shown on dash, immediately went home! pulled code P0500 VSS sensor circuit fault.

Checked wiring from VSS on diff too firewall by backprobing plug (and visually), continuity checks out-no short circuit but do have the green/black tracer also to ground, the red/pink tracer is not to ground. Is this normal?

VSS sensor looks ok but i ohmed between the two pins and go a completely open circuit, i read the VSS sensor shoulf ohm out at 1200 to 1500 between pins? Can someone confirm this?

Dashboard shows odometer reading when key on. When i pull fuse 18 it drops out so the fuse is good.

Anything i am missing befor i go for a new VSS sensor?

Cheers!

Here's the Introduction and PinpointTests for both the VSS and PSOM since they both deal with P0500. Diagrams also. Cheers!

A breakout box would be a cabled box that would go between the PCM connector and the PCM and allows one to easily probe the various pins. It is not necessarily needed but makes like much easier. I wish I had one! Some tests are done with the PCM left disconnected (in which case you can just probe the various pins right from the PCM Connector without a breakout box ... can be a pain but doable) and some are done with the PCM connected (in which case you would need to backprobe the PCM connector while connected to the PCM which is a real PITA without a breakout box. The splice to ground would be only for a cable-driven VSS (so doesn't apply to you). Cheers!
