Hey guys, this morning I started my truck and everything was good. On the way to work, my battery light came on and I checked my SCT and it came up with a P0625 code, I cleared it and the light went off. About 30 seconds later the light came back on and the code returned. The batteries are brand new, and I know the code means Generator Field Terminal Circuit Low. I have an appointment at Ford tomorrow to check the alternator.

My question is, could this be alternator related? I checked the voltage and it fluctuates from 11-11.6 off the batteries.

Thanks for any help. I am also on my way to Valemount, BC for some sledding on Friday and hope I can get this resolved.

Not sure, but I suspect it is. You may have to pay a deductible, though. I had to have my cam sensor oil seal replaced while I was in for limp mode issues. It was covered but I had to pay a deductible. However, if it's not covered, you might want to check at your local auto parts store because you could probably get a rebuilt one (with exchange) for less than what the dealer will charge. Then change it yourself. It's not hard...if you can get to it. With all the stuff on these engines, that might be the hardest part.

I would absolutely love to change it myself but like you said with all that stuff in the way it looks like too much of a headache. I don't understand why they had to put it all the way in there; why couldn't they have it at the top like the 6.0? Or any other vehicle for that matter.

Checked my F-550 service truck and its pumping out 14.6v so there is a problem with mine :(

Engineers, man. If they had to work on them, they'd design them a little easier to do that. I think every engineer should have to spend a year in a shop somewhere before they are allowed to design anything. I'd be willing to bet my next paycheck that if they did, the designs would get a whole lot simpler.

I don't want to worry you, but I just noticed you are deleted. That might be a problem in getting a warranty claim through. Of course we all know a bad alternator has absolutely nothing to do with being deleted, but depending on how mod friendly your dealer is, they may balk at warranty work. That's why I am going to wait a bit before deleting (was going to do it this week). The tech at my dealer, while agreeing that deleting was a very good idea, said that if they were to open the hood and see evidence of being deleted, it would be bye-bye warranty. As bad as I want to delete, I can't just throw away 40k miles worth of already paid for warranty. Just sayin'. Good luck, man.

Sounds like you have a mod friendly dealer. That's good! Officially, mine is not, but off the record he is so I'm not sure which version to believe. I don't want to have to have $2000.00 worth of work done that would have been covered under warranty, but since I deleted...not anymore. That would really suck.

Oh man, sorry you got stranded. Sounds like your battery finally died since it wasn't getting any charge from the alternator.

I called them last night and it was in the shop, they weren't too sure if it was the alternator itself or the harness so they are just going to replace both and should have it back today. They didn't say if it was warranty related or not!

Hmmm, that's interesting. I'd think that would be fairly easy to check. Pull the alternator off and put it on a test bench to see if there is any output. If there is, and it's correct, then go for the harness.

No update on warranty. But update on how dumb these people are at the dealership. I had the truck towed to Ford on Tuesday and told them and I quote "I am pretty sure the alternator is fried it doesn't charge the batteries." So yesterday they called and said the ordered a wire harness for the alternator cause it was burnt or fried and I said sure go ahead maybe I was wrong. SO they just called and said "the wire harness wasn't it the tech now thinks it was the alternator" and I didn't mean to get mad at this poor girl but I said "I told you to guys to begin with it was the ****'n alternator now you have put me behind a full day on my snowmobile trip which puts the people I am going with a full day behind schedule too and I am sure as **** not paying for that stupid wire harness." So they don;t have an alternator in stock, Edmonton doesn't have one so they are going to put a lower amperage one in to get me on the road. It better not fail me.

Why don't they listen to customers? Do they think we are idiots?

Actually, yes, they do think we're idiots. Well, maybe not idiots, but at least that we know nothing at all about mechanical stuff. It's the same school of thought used by salesmen to convince you what a great vehicle it is because it has cup holders and a vanity mirror. Still, though, you're right. Why wouldn't they try the easiest, most logical thing first. You'll just have to ride your snowmobile faster when you get there.

So the work was all done under warranty and everything is good. Made it to Valemount, BC with no issues. Off sledding tomorrow should be a riot and off for some much needed beers right now. Tons of 350s and 450s with decks and trailers looks good for the PowerStroke community!
