Price to replace fuel injectors?

1999 F350 175,000. The truck on startup is intermittently spewing white smoke. My mechanic, a large reputable establishment, replaced #5 fuel injector at a cost of $800. Two starts later I get a service engine light. Codes have not been run yet, but mechanic previously said all injectors should be replaced. I was searching the Internet and saw two references that said the price should be about four to $500/per. Is $800 per fuel injector a fair price? Help!

Thanks for the additional info. I'm flying blind here... This Shop is a member of AAA authorized repair shops, but if I go to the AAA website and enter the job name for an estimate on how much to expect.... AAA's estimate is a fraction of what the Shop estimate. I know repair jobs are never black and white but the discrepancy is so much. I'm happy to pay a fair price..., if I know what it is.

I think they are saying $800 to replace 1 injector. If you replace all 8 your looking at about 1,000 for the parts from corey if you go with stock. Then according to All data DIY the book rate to replace both sides is 5.2 hours. So depending on the labor rate that should give you an idea of price.

This LINK HERE will take you to the page on our site that lists a bunch of injector options for the 7.3L. Make sure you do not confuse complete injectors with just nozzles.

A complete set of brand new stock replacement injectors from Industrial Injection will run just under 3K with a 2 year warranty.

Reach out to me for more info or to get a quote going.

Regards,

Tommy

Hold the phone... Truck starts spewing white smoke so a "reputable shop" says its the one injector, then later on says well all 8 should have been done...

I think you need a second opinion and don't bother with AAA list of approved shops. You need to figure out the cause of white smoke before just replacing injectors.

There are some simple steps you could do yourself to help eliminate some causes right off the bat. If time is not on your side its worth it to have another shop even better to have Ford look at it. at 175k most likely your injectors are not shot unless someone constantly skipped oil/filter and fuel filter changes etc.

did you notice a rainbow sheen (fuel) in the coolant reservoir?
were you low on coolant/oil?
Spewing white smoke as in when it first started? and it went away or randomly driving and it just went white behind you and its been that way or?
