Opti-Lube XL, anyone tried this?

I just used the last of my Schaffers Diesel Treat 2000 and was looking for an alternative. I came across this 'new to me' product from Opti-Lube called Extreme Lubrication or XL. It's $38/gallon which treats 1280 gallons of ULSD. They have HFRR test results posted from a third party lab which shows it has better lubricity than their XPD product when added to a gallon of ULSD. Doesn't seem to have any cetane boost or anti-gel or anything else, just a lubricity additive. Has anyone tried this product and what were your thoughts?

Thanks

Here is a pdf regarding fuel additives to help in your decision.
At the very bottom there is a spreadsheet for easy comparison.

So no one has tried this then? I know it wasn't on the 'Spicer' report but it seems to have good data associated with it. If you look at the spicer report, the XL product would have come in 3rd place, even at an additive to diesel ratio of 1:1280. The Opti-Lube XPD product that came in 2nd on the spicer report was using a 1:256 ratio, 5 times more additive. At a 1:1280 ratio, XL costs like .03 cents per gallon, on my truck that's less than a buck. Seems like a no-brainer but I wanted to see if anyone had tried it. Looks like I will be the first.

I'm not against a diesel additive unless it's folks saying to put ATF in their tanks lol.... I'll use diesel kleen couple times a year but that's about it. I will use at least one if I do my normal 2k Mile trip to Idaho because I pass through 4 states and numerous shady looking fuel stops lol....

No experience with opti-lube but I may look into it just to change it up.

The guy I bought my 5th wheel from told me he ran straight used ATF for 4 years and hadn't had any problems.
He was a Trans technician at a Ford dealership, imagine, 4 yrs of fuel for FREE !!!

I've used Opti-Lube XPD since that '07 report came out (before XL) because I think it's important to add the lubricity that was lost with ULSD (and our injection system was designed for that lubricity to be there).

It was my impression that XL was created to give you a cheaper alternative to XPD to "bring into the fold" those who were, foolishly, using something like 2-cycle (a lubricity Only additive, as opposed to XPD which has several additional benefits other than just a lube).

But anything is better than ULSD alone...

Problem with used atf is its hard to get all the crap out of it.

My uncle's friend ran straight atf for a few years.

Ruined the HEUI injectors in his CAT semi.

He ran it through filters before it even went into the truck.

I use the XPD for about three months in winter and the summer formula, forget the exact name, the rest of the year because it is cheaper. Run it in both trucks and my tractor. I'd swear they make all three vehicles run much quieter -- less injector noise. Haven't noticed any difference in mpg or performance.

I have been using the Xpd for years, well worth the money, everyone tells me they have never heard such quiet injectors. I actually thought something was reong with the truck after a few tanks it made such a difference. I now have 260k miles on thoes injectors and they are going fine, I did notice a small power boost and improved milage when I can stay out of the throttle. I like it so much I freak when I run out

i have run power service mostly because it is readily available
i have always wanted to try optilube but no idea where to get it...suppose i will search online :look:
i run additives all winter for anti gel and most of the summer i run a bio blend and or some power service and 2 stroke
which scared me at first but when i added a good dose i could actually hear the injectors quiet down
had a guy with a 6.0 stopped next to me getting fuel and when he shut his off he came up and said "damn" i didnt think your truck was running why is it so much quieter than mine?"

I ran PowerService as well for awhile because of the availability. I started OptiLube last year, and I buy mine directly from their website. I priced it on Amazon and even with free shipping, Amazon was ~$4 more. Wish I could get it locally and not have to pay for shipping :please:

Hate to bump an old thread, but I can you tell you from experience that the Opti-Lube XPD has made a huge difference in my rig. Clean as a whistle during fuel filter changes and sounds quieter in general. I can also verify that their Winter blend kept me running this last season with a couple weeks of near 0 degree temps. Sometimes without even plugging in the engine block heater. No gel-up and a single strike cold start. I'm not usually big fan of additives or 'snake oils,' but the proof is in the pudding. Plus, the added lubrication is likely needed with the low-sulphur fuel forced upon us these days.
