I went out to fire up the truck today and noticed about 15 seconds after starting, the overdrive light began to flash  I knew this would be trans related and initially thought of the speed sensor but ran the diagnostics option in Torque and came up with P0705 which advised:

Type: Powertrain - Transmission - ISO/SAE Controlled
Description: DTR or TR Sensor Circuit Conditions
Cause: Engine running, then the PCM detected that the DTR or TR sensor signal was out of its normal range

Okay, so this is the transmission range sensor circuit malfunction which I'm seeing is connected to the PRND21 input. I know there is a switch thats connected to the shifter. Does anybody have any experience in this? I wanted to tackle it tonight when the wife got home but its been cold, raining and I have to go to work now. I might be able to get to this tomorrow but need to budget my time appropriately.

If I can get as much info going into this as possible and not going in blind, thatd be amazing.

I have no idea man. But when you do figure it out make sure you update us so we can use it for reference :thumb:

Usually that means the sensor is on its way out but verify that your linkage is properly adjusted if the tr sensor tells the pcm that it's in park but it's in reverse and the tiss tells the pcm theirs movement these don't jive

Make sure mounting bolts are tight on your tr sensor

Thanks for the info. Looking to get in there tomorrow. No clue what I'm doing but we'll see :dunno:

Awesome. Thats the positive reinforcement I need :D Im wondering what the heck could have even caused an issue anyway. The truck has sat for several days and Ive never had an issue before. I only went to crank it up and noticed I had a problem. I'll report my findings tomorrow. Hopefully I can see the immediate problem or dissect the unit, clean it up and move onto the next DIY :please:

I had this issue on my 7.3 IDI but it was the speed sensor and was relatively quick and easy. Your experience jives with my incident since I've been spraying the underside like crazy to prevent any excessive salt build up from the recent doses of overly treated roads. Hopefully that's all it is! Thanks again.

Crisis averted :woot: It was the connection that runs along the frame and over the crossmember that connects to the trans. Popped it off, cleaned it up, sprayed it down with Fluid Film and popped it back in place. Reconnected the batteries, started the truck (I probably should have had it plugged in since its 15°F but I wasnt focused on starting just yet) and BAM problem solved!

The entire event from walking out of my garage to putting the last tool away: 10 minutes!

I'd say this was a great day. Thank you dhanna6powerstroke. You called it right

Just in case your problem comes back. Mine had the same error code. I tried spraying contact cleaner in the connector and on the pins inside the DTR sensor. It would work for awhile then the problem would re-occur a few days later. I was just about ready to replace it but decided to pull it off and get a good look at the pins inside the housing. Most of the copper pins in the DTR were oxidized and green in color. I user a copper gun barrel brush and some contact cleaner to remove the oxidation from each pin inside the DTR. I re-installed it and the problem has not came back for 3 years now. I hope yours stays fixed. Just food for thought if it would happen to come back.

Great! Thanks for the info! Hoping I can squeeze by without another issue but this is a reassuring fall-back in case I do.
