new turbo -- no boost

I blow up my old turbo. Even had about 1 gal of oil go through it to get truck to next place to pull off road.

I replce the old turbo (it was an '03) with an '06. My truck is an 06 F350.

I do get about 4 psi of boost when it is cold but after it is fully warmed up the boost gauge does not move off of '0'. I know I do not have boost also. Lack of power. It does not smoke now. (it smoked a lot at first from oil in exhaust).

There is no codes.

Where do I start????

Check your piping? If you blew up your old turbo, its possible debris has made its way into the intercooler as well. Its common practice on the big trucks that when the turbo goes, the intercooler must also be replaced (or at least reverse flushed and pressure tested).

Was the new turbo you put on clean? It may have sticking vanes from sitting for a long time and rusting but if its not smoking I think I would lean towards a boost leak somewhere.

Yes, same solenoid on both turbos. If you have a diagnostic computer (like AutoEnginuity), you would be able to command the solenoid open and close and hear the exhaust note change.

I had a similar problem when i cleaned my turbo. When i put things back together i didnt seat the intake correctly at the front of the truck and it wasnt delivering air to the turbo. Start your truck, pop the hood, and throttle the engine. If their is a leak you will be able to hear it.

My VGT solenoid plug was bad. I would get boost sometimes, but mostly not at all. Finally bumped it and the turbo kicked in. Replaced the plug and it's never missed a lick!

I have the truck at a shop. They finally looked at it at the end of day.. They did hook up computer and tested turbo at 1200 rpm and put a load on it. They said the solenoid is working. They also took it for a drive and when they return checked with temp gun exhaust to see if there could be blockage. My exhaust temps are reading higher than normal. I’m assuming because the turbo is not working normal.
While waiting for them to test the truck I took some readings with my scangauge. From what I have read the turbo gets readings from MAP and EBP sensors through the computer. The readings were EBP 11.1. MAP 11.0, and BARB 10.8. I read these should read the same. I’m assume the readings are good since they are so close.
I did get one bad reading on my scangauge. MAT is reading -40. As far as I know MAT does not affect the turbo.
The shop plan to check fuel pressure --- they are thinking bad fuel pump. I do not understand that since it runs good and gets high rpms. It was checked 2 weeks ago 60PSI both idle and at power.
Any other ideas???????????

Please help (I need to get back home----yes I’m on the road).

Thanks for your help. But it did not help in my case. Found the cat. bad. I guess 1 gal of oil through the cat does not work.

Just to let others know if there turbo goes out and a lot of oil goes through the exhaust and you still have a cat. Then you may have cat trouble.
