I know that there aren't many 2017's out there, but I've heard that the new truck is providing improved fuel economy over the old body style. (It doesn't seem right to call them "old") I don't know if this is hype or reality. Does anyone have any information in this regard?

The brochure does claim better fuel economy

I did notice that, but if memory serves me, they don't give numbers. (as usual)

I was hoping to hear some real world numbers that the guys are getting with the 2017's.

Looks like the guys that are buying them can't afford to drive them after getting raped by the dealerships. lol

2017 Super duty MPG

Was recently at looking at a new 2017 F350. Went in to the service department to talk shop and they claimed to have a customer that achieved 17mpg average pulling 36ft bumper pull RV to Scottsdale and back to Portland. I was like Hmmm?
NO WAY! Total LIE!!
I have had my 2017 Lariat crew cab 6.7, 1 Ton, dually 4X4 with the 4.10 rear for 2 weeks now and barely averaging over 11 MPG and haven't towed anything yet.

I live in Dodge country. 50 percent of those guys will bet their first born child that they get 25 mpg from their Cummins. Its like they all agreed on that number around here.

Anything is possible when their Fiat is on the back of a tow truck heading back to the dealer.

You mentioned Fiat Smoke. My wife and I were looking at one of them yesterday. What a butt UGLY car. Not only is it ugly, but it rates as the worst of the worst vehicles at Consumer Reports. I have to wonder why a person would walk into a dealership and pay good money for one when there are so many choices?

I just fueled up for the first time and was seeing a mixed total of 17mpg for freeway/city miles. I averaged about 20mpg cruising pacific coast highway at 45-50mph, 24-27mpg on the freeway at 60-67mph. 14-15mpg in traffic and close light to light driving. I know the on board fuel economy meter is not the most accurate but its at least a standard that we all have to go by.

Edit: this was all unloaded and no towing

I don't know if the 2017's MPG meters are going to be as accurate as the out going body style, but my old 2014's mpg meter was always within .1 mpg. About 50% of the time the difference was in hundredths of a MPG. It was very reliable. I don't know if maybe I just got a good one or if they all are that way though.

Also, to clarify, I hand calculate every tank and ~95% of the time fill up at the same pump.

The auto transmission has even taken over the class 8 trucks (semi's). I wonder if motorcycles will go that way as well.

Should be getting fuel for the second time today so I can get a hand calculated mpg. First time I was just below half and now I'm at about 1/3 tank. I'm sure the dealer didn't fill it to the brim though like I do. Just under a 1000 miles on her. Display has been showing between 16.5 - 16.9. If that is anywhere close to accurate that would be awesome considering winter fuel, cold weather, and several minutes of warm up idling twice a day.

I'm no where near my first fill up at about 250 miles, however, If the meter is anywhere near correct I'll be pleased. It's been running between 17.9 - 18.4. Like you, this is with winter fuel, and warm ups.

First tank(off of dealers fill which im sure was 1st click)
Mixed city, highway, idling, goofing off, pulled an empty trailer about 20 miles, and last leg had about 500 lbs in bed.

I ran her to 19 miles to empty , fuel reading turned yellow
Avg 13.76 mpg, 637 miles took 46.28 gallons topped to the neck.(figured from 1st click would have been 14.74) I always hand calculate. Dash said 15.6
I noticed under 100 miles dte started dropping really fast, nothing had changed was cruising about 75mph on I75 south
First tank has 19 hrs and 7 idling hours. Next tank should be better indicator.
Fillup resulted in DTE reading 705 MTE

Forgot to add i put 285-75-18 toyo on bout 250 miles into that tank which threw speedo off by about 4.9%
Which i accounted for but computer cant.

My second tank was running the rest of the way into orlando, fl, ran around town there a few days, then back up i75 into georgia, with about 1100lbs in bed and tailgate down. 75 mph most of the way, some 80, some 70.

624 miles, filled to neck 39.91 gallons=15.63 mpg this was mostly highway with some stop and go thru Atlanta, dash showed 15.3

I also have a weathergaurd with probably 400lbs total stuff in it.

I love the truck, thank goodness free fuel is one of my work benefits. Also DEF usage thus far i am a little over 7/8 of a tank, at about 1300 miles so far.

This is taking some getting used to coming from my tuned 2012 dodge. With stock tires i consistently got 18.5-19.5 once i got my tuning dialed in. Once i added a level and 285-75-18's it dropped down to 17.5-18.5 usually. basically under these same conditions

The Dodge that I had was pretty good on fuel too. I just hated that the truck kept falling apart all of the time. I warned the guy who bought it from me that it will eventually become a rolling chassis with a seat for him to sit in. He's had it 3 years now and totally agrees.

That is impressive. My son has a 2016 F150 with the 5.0. He's getting 16 with it all being country road driving.

I just hit 5,000 miles on my '17 F350. 4x4, crew cab, 6.5' bed.

I have logged every fill-up on a phone app so can report actual numbers, not the consistently optimistic mpg computer.

With a mixed bag of city, highway, off-road and light towing, overall average since I drove it off the lot is 15.4mpg. Looking at the averages at each fill-up it ranges from as low as 12.32 to a high of 18.2 mpg.

The dashboard mpg gauge seems to vary from tank to tank but mostly averages 0.5 mpg higher than reality. On some tanks it's even higher, others more accurate but always reads above real numbers. Can't figure out the reason for the variation. For what it's worth, I compared the speedometer reading to a GPS. Going by the digital speed readout of the cruise control, at 70mph it is within 0.1 mph.

I'm still on the dealer's initial fill of DEF but it's dropping below 1/4 tank so I'll plan for top-offs at every 5k miles.

Looks like I went from 13.3 to 14.1 mpg on the last tank. This tank truck is still saying 16.6 - 16.7 mpg so that means it is about 2.5 mpg off. Hopefully the upward trend continues as I only have 1200 miles on the truck but I'm not expecting much better until spring.

I keep track of every fuel up with Fuelly.

My last tank was 14.9 mpg. mixed city and highway

This tank i am at 3/4 tank so far with 510 mte, looks like im going to come in closer to 16-16.5 with less traffic

any of you guys with the 34 gallon tanks tried changing your DTE setting to the towing calc?

I've had mine for almost a month now. With 400 miles on the ticker my mpg meter says 18.2 mpg. I don't know how accurate that thing is. When I get to my second fill up I'll hand calculate and see.
