My CB Install...

So it's not the best looking install, but at least it's drill-less.
Anyone with an '08 has to miss that weird looking "Hat" rack thing that was in the previous style SD's...that was where I had my Cobra 29 mounted in my '05.

But for the '08 there's just not a good place to fit it so I came up with this late one night.

First I put 2 Barjan 4'ers on, ones just to even things out though...Ran the coax through the bed into the back of the cab, then ran up through the door sill under the dash and to the cb location...nothing terrible

Ran my power and grounded it, hid all the wires out of sight and ended up with this

So you can see I mounted it to the cup holder door. I took the Cobra 29 mount that the radio came with, cut it up to fit into the cup holder, then since the sides of the bracket weren't long enough to reach the screw hole because of the little pull handle on the door, I took a couple small pieces of a bracket I had laying around and that gave me enough space between the cup holder and the cb. I might end up painting it all black, or redoing the brackets all together to make it look more eye appealing, but for now it works fine.

While driving the cb pulls the door down so I may put some velcro around the door or something to hold it upright while driving...it is right on the edge of having enough strength to hold the cb up and letting it fall so it shouldn't take much.

Just wanted to throw another idea out there for those looking for a place to mount a cb but don't want to drill into that nice plastic.

Looks good, but aren't you worried about it ripping the cup holder off completely when you have a drink in it, or just driving down the road? I like the cleanliness of it though :thumb:

forget about the weight of it, make sure you got lids on your cups lol
otherwise that might end up being bad
that's a really nice mounting idea
i ended up putting mine (on a 2000) in the little concave part of the dash below where the 4wd selector would be . . . if i had 4wd
except i had to block off a little cubby to get it to fit

only thing i would worry about doing it your way would be bending the wires too much
personally, i like to keep wires as straight as possible

I'm not so much concerned about too much weight that's a well built cup holder if you've ever looked at it...plus the CB almost touches the carpeting when down so if there's too much weight the cb will prevent it from breaking...plus I have those other 2 cup holders in the center fold down console :thumb:

I mounted mine there on my FX4 because there is cup holders in console. I put 2 screws through it to hold it closed all the time. Great location, out of the way. I had to put screws in the Magnum 6 radio weighs more than cobra.

When driving it will stay up for a while then flop down, that's why I want to add some velcro or something, I wish that compartment had a nice latch to it or something instead of whatever return it has..I might try to find something a little neater than just velcro, but at least that would be easy to remove someday, I really wanted some solution that could be removed and not leave any holes or junk behind.

And the mic is fine, it's the one that came with the Cobra. I'm not a hardcore CB user so it does the job.

Thanks for the comments!

I mounted mine right under the center cupholders, that way I can leave the cupholders closed and I can still use them if needed, however, I have a limited view of the screen. When you take it out, it also leaves no marks, the carpet hides the screw holes. I postedsome pics here
