2006 F350 CC DRW 8ft bed
Primarily tow ~11000lb fifth wheel (2011 Laredo 321BH)
The beast has popped the weld on the original to us exhaust and is in need of replacing. This is a workhorse and definitely not going to win any shows so I'm trying to keep it cost-efficient ($300-$450 max). Both MBRP and Diamond Eye offer comparably priced turbo back systems and I'm wondering what real-world advice can be given.
I found a few videos of idle and light acceleration but there isn't a lot out there for loaded heavy tones. And we have the towboss with the 4.30 gears so we run high RPM.
The old system had a muffler but I'm not really sure what system it is to compare. I'll try to look at the muffler tomorrow for a name.
I'm confident I don't need the 5" exhaust since I'm "oem+" and not racing it. Do the high flow mufflers make much difference?
I'm debating 4" turbo back straight pipe with muffler vs without.
Performance-wise:
- EGTs, I'm thinking there won't be much change with or without the muffler going to the 4"
- Maybe a little more power with the larger downpipe,even if it's 3.5" I've seen some listed at.
While I like the dump pipe sounds with extra bark and whistles under the cab, I'm curious how much it would change if I straight pipped it out the back. Will the rare family conversation still be an issue? Or, the exhaust drone when cruising loaded at 2100-2500 RPM (65-70MPH).
