was looking to pick up one of there egr dlete kits and they offer an option for an updated IPR HPOP screen. its $70. Is it worth it. I see i can get a new international one for around $25-30. Is the IPr research one any better?

It is made to be stronger than the factory screen.

I haven't heard anything bad about it...

Two different screens...

The HPOP screen is the one that ZMANN posted.

That screen protects the HPOP form getting any debris in it and it also protects the IPR Valve.

The IPR Valve also has a screen on it, but if anything gets past the HPOP screen and blocks the IPR Valve screen, your truck won't run.

Now don't confuse the company IPR (Innovative Performance Research) with what I was just talking about... :D

The old reservoir screen had issues with the windows breaking out and getting sucked into the hpop. Whether this in itself caused any problems I do not know exactly. It does defeat the purpose of even having a screen there at all. (which was deemed necessary by international engineers)

The new metal mesh screen is much more durable HOWEVER its windows can still get sucked through if there is heavy reservoir contamination AKA dirt from an oil cooler repair. I have seen new screens torn but only after a large amount of debris has collected on the the windows. By the time a new style screen gets sucked in it's just unleashed a bunch of dirt into the high pressure system which will in turn damage the IPR screen as it tries to pass through. I'm sure it can't be helpful to the injectors either.

There are no issues using the new style updated screen. I have seen new style virgin oil cooler screens clogged with material even though no oil cooler repairs had been performed previously. These screens were on vehicles run with aftermarket (ahem NAPA) oil filters. I can only assume this material is degrading oil filter media.

I opt to not install the IPR updated oil reservoir screen, if everything is clean upon reassembly and you are using a motorcraft oil filter then there is no concern with a new style oem screen. I have seen many that are still fully intact.

edit - if you are doing a delete and also considering updating the screen you should just put in a oil cooler. The oem oil cooler kit will come with a new screen.

I thought about getting that stainless mesh screen from IPR too but decided the factory metal screen was plenty good enough as I haven't seen it fail. The original nylon screen was kind of a piece of crap and that was the reason for Ford to introduce the metal screen. IMO if you're tearing a factory metal screen you've got issues that the IPR upgraded screen isn't going to fix. lol
