Hi all,

I need suggestions on the best and most reasonable priced company to send my injectors off to get rebuilt.

Thoughts?

I’m in Deep South and an outfit that’s popular w locals is Pensacola Fuel Injection. When I get around to it I might drive mine over to them and have them done or just exchange them over the counter. They have a big eBay store that has decent feedback. A few Cummins axe grinders on Yelp but I think that cursed injection system is as much to blame. I can’t speak from personal experience and they don’t have the legend and lore of the popular companies celebrated by this small community or power stroke enthusiasts but they are popular in my area with many commercial trucking lines who make a living on the road. If they are close give them a shot otherwise find a reputable diesel service close to you and go with them.

Ya I’m with noralph!

Pensacola is terrible!! One guy over on TDS is having huge issues with his reman Pensacola injectors. They are the worst in the business

Get what you pay for on these injectors. Buying cheap leads often to headaches and a poor running truck. A good option is to purchase new Alliant brand injectors. P.I.S. also has a good reputation.

Rosewood diesel has a good deal and good reputation for rebuilding injectors. Rosewood, PIS, Swamps, Full Force, and Unlimited are the only ones I would recommend if you are buying rebuild injectors.

One buddy of mine got his injectors from swamps, no issues. Stock reman, send back cores for refund type deal.

Another buddy got burned by Rosewood, which I was sorry to hear, as they are reasonably close to me. Proceed at your own risk.

It is a small forum of contributors here for these 7.3 internet threads. It’s not surprising that many of the recommended shops are also sponsors of this forum. They deserve mention and should get product placement for supporting this community. However, as has been pointed out even the most vaunted reputation can have an issue from time to time. I suggested a shop that is generally well regarded by the industry in my area. Yes they have had problems. Most vendors do and you will hear about bad stuff before good because axe grinders tend to be more proactive with their message. I would be too if my 1300 injectors were bad. Everybody knows a guy who knows a guy or read something somewhere. Anyway, I’m most comfortable with a reputable shop near my location simply because problems can be resolved with more certainty, in my opinion, face to face. Otherwise I would be inclined to choose a supporter like swamps with solid feedback which also happens to be less than a 5 hours drive if I ever needed to go there.

I only recommend the 5 brands that I mentioned before because they have a been building good injectors for many years and they have good customer support. I honestly couldn't care less wether they are members on this forum or not, they are still the only ones I would use.

I’ve never heard a good thing about Pensacola.
This is across 3-4 different forums. And all over Facebook.
They use non oem glow plugs and uvch in their kit as well which is a no no

Aftermarket glow plugs are known to swell and have issues.

Swamps has recorded multiple engine failures from faulty aftermarket uvch.

Swamps builds good injectors. Their tunes run a little hot and smokier than a other shops.

I agree on the aftermarket parts UVCH, glow plugs, sensors, etc) not because of personal experience but because of all the experiences from other folks I have read about. I am grateful to learn the easy way rather than the hard. With regard to injector rebuilds, again, if it were my money I would follow first hand knowledge then universal acclaim, then the old I know a guy stuff. I don’t mean to sound contradictory or hypocritical. If so it’s because I’m a poor writer and I apologize. Pensacola is super close to me and does a ton of work in this area for military, off shore, industrial, petroleum, agricultural and over the road applications. I asked around my area and they get mentioned a lot. If internet feedback makes people nervous then by all means use somebody else. I get it. Injectors are expensive, a pain in the neck to swap and we can’t go very far without them. Lol! If swamps was in my back yard I’d use them without a doubt. I might use swamps anyway because of reputation (I really like if they were closer ) the specialize in light duty truck injectors and the 5 year warranty. Anyway, I just offer them as an option, for injector work only, if you are on gulf coast.

HEUI injectors are unique. That is why so few shops rebuild them well.

Maybe your thinking of performance injection systems? They are located in Florida and have a fantastic reputation.

No. I was speaking of Pensacola. They are close by and ok by locals. I believe they are a jack of all trades . Don’t like the aftermarket parts but injector work I might trust. If they aren’t close to the OP ( I value proximity on expensive stuff) then he may be better served to look for a local near him or use one of the other vendors, as recommended by yourself and others, that sponsor the forum.

Name calling, really?

Guess there are only 5 places in these 50 states after all. I’m the shill? Irony...

Shall I use smaller words, Ralph, or maybe I should have used a crayon?

Honestly, if you read anything I wrote... go local (an example near me) or go site sponsor... it’s pretty simple. Grow up.

I had PIS in my old truck and was happy with them. I put about 25,000 miles on them. If i was in the market for another 7.3 injector i would get a set of them again.

It’s a sensitive issue like best oil or best tires.
And Sensitive you certainly are, to feel like I've "called you a Name" for goodness sake!

It was actually your accusation that those who criticized your employer as being motivated by shilling for advertisers first!

You have to admit, you have been pushing pretty hard for your "boys" at Pensacola in this thread. There was nothing personal in "and master of none". Have you never heard the phrase "Jack-of-all Trades and Master-of-None" ? I was just finishing your sentence for you there , don't get your panties in bunch :wink[3]:

It's a bit much to ask for a safe-space here in a diesel truck forum...

To the OP and the rest, I apologize for getting baited. I have little patience for trolls who disrupt productive discourse, hide behind internet bravado and make foolish comments. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for folks seeking and sharing information to be respectful of others, tolerant of differing points of view and even have a modicum of humility. I wouldn’t know a plunger from a barrel when it comes to injectors but I read, ask questions and share what I can. I hope to learn more from you all through respectful discourse in the coming months.

Ralphs suggestion that I work for PD is hilarious and stupefying. I’m part of a small community within the DoD that travels a lot. I’m going to have fun sharing that with the guys next time we get wherever we’re going and laughs are in short supply. We know weak sauce when we see it. So, Ralph, thank you for another one of your poorly written, dumpster fires of a post. You are the coolest guy on the internet. Just kidding. Seriously, I didn’t mean that at all. Panties? That’s really weird man. I don’t know any dudes that wear panties Ralph. We obviously have very different lifestyles. I don’t judge. Crayons and small words for you.

The reality with rebuilt injectors is very few shops actually use Machining to restore the oil sides. Most shops are using shims to restore armature clearances which are really nothing short of a band aid. Shims do not take things in consideration like worn valve seats and reduced spring preload unless upper seat shims are used. P.I.S. had said they machine their rebuilds and if a core is beyond repair it goes to scrap. Now that P.I.S. was sold hopefully that will not change. Time will tell with the new ownership. These are then reasons why so many owners have problems with issues after installing rebuilt injectors. Poor idle, excessive haze, and so on. Very few shops rebuild these correctly because that takes time and time is money.

When did PIS get sold? Is that fairly recent or did it happen several years ago.

#25 · (Edited)
Last year not sure exactly when. It happened quietly and then Tim who owned P.I.S. originally told us that he no longer was associated with P.I.S. and that it had been sold to Gray's Diesel Performance. I just checked an ongoing thread on another forum and the new owner chimed in to let everyone know that P.I.S. will continue to build high quality injectors and honor all previous warranty work.
