Is the filter white or does it have a red tint to the fibers? White will be dry, the red will be oiled. I have never seen in person a S&B dry filter, but if its like most, a dry filter will be more of a "paper" type media, and an oil filter will be more of a cloth? If it is an oil filter, I would use S&B oil and cleaner. Some may say that you can use other brands oil/cleaner, but I always use the S&B on my filters.

I've used the K&N re-charge kit on serveral non-K&N filters in the past (to include AFE, S&B, Steeda, B&M and others I can't remember, on the different cars ,trucks and motorcycles I had over the years). No issues with any of them ever. I would rather use the stuff from the same company as the filter (i.e. AFE oil on my AFE filter), but the K&N stuff is locally available at any auto parts store, so I use it instead.

Then you have a oiled filter. Get the S&B cleaning kit and get it all washed up and back to new. Make sure you get the red oil kit. There are two different oils, a red and a blue oil kit.

 

I've been using the K&N cleaning stuff on my S&B filter for a few years now with no issues. Pretty sure its the same stuff that S&B sells anyway, with a different sticker on the bottle.

 

I like the fact that K&N has a spray bottle to oil the filter, I waste so much time with S&B's stupid syringe style oiler.... frustration argh
