This is a refresh of an older, similar thread that had a lot of info on low/mid-range mileage trucks.

Now that these bad boys have been on the road since 2011, I'm looking to get some feedback on the life expectancy and would love to hear from the guys with 100k or 150k plus miles. I know that's relative to use and maintenance, but I'm just looking to get in the ballpark.

I ask because my '12 just hit 124k miles, and I'm curious if I can reasonably expect 200k...300k?? Or should I trade in and trade up?

I think deleting extends the life of the engine. I would also not trust early 2011's (really any 2011) with the problems some of them had with turbos & such. I have a 2013 at 128k, deleted at 100k. Oil change every 5k & fuel filters every 10k. I'm gonna start running Archoil in the oil & use the Archoil fuel tank cleaner every 5k as well

I picked up my 2012 (born on 9/2012) used with 210K miles. This truck came from the oil fields in TX and you can tell it had a rough life for five years.

I changed all fluids and had the coolant systems flushed. The front u-joints and parking brakes are last on my list of several small things.

This this is my DD and so far this has been a solid truck. I am sure the main radiator has been replaced and possible the turbo but I cannot tell for sure. The truck makes no abnormal sound and has no issues and is 100% stock.

I am up to 213k miles now and everything I do to it makes it a little better. In the time that I will own this truck, it will never come close to see the work it has done in its first 5 years. Not a beauty queen but it is mine and I dont have to worry about shopping carts or the occasional tree limb.

If this truck lasts me 5 years with another 100K miles I will be happy. I got the truck for $16,000

Third door neighbors boss has a 13 with 300k+ had an injector hold down, big whoop.

Saw an 11 personally in the shop getting a turdblow with 450k not well maintained, coolant looked like coffee. Beat to a pulp, I know he bought it already ragged out and had it rebuilt but reused a lot of stupid parts. Honestly the guys a D bag but point being it's still on the road.

Both are emmisions intact. I think you should get that no prob, but **** breaks every day for no reason. @mwe_060 sees them get abused as well as @kaya so see what they say.

IMHO your not going to loose that much more value from 140k vs 200k, I'm keeping mine till the motor falls out, then I'll put a new motor in it. Or I find a killer deal on something better.

Bought my 2012 with 134k a year and a half ago, has 160k on it now. I've had to do the AC Evap coil, and now the rad is leaking. Big deal, i'm just letting it leak until the summer.

My rig has been emissions on its whole life, and for the last 15k, DP tuned with a heavy tow tune. No issues, runs like a dream every day, gets good milage. I don't hesitate to drive it across the country and I do. I expect to see 250k-300k out of this one before I get rid of it. It'll probably give me an opportunity to put a 2015 turbo in it somewhere in the 200k range.

Fellas, the key is: don't be an idiot with the truck....Keep on top of fluids, filters, and clean fuel, and don't be an idiot on hot tunes all the time, and the engine and trans will last. Yes, you may have failure of a stock turbo on 11-14's at some point, and you may not. Same goes for the primary radiator, and the evap coil. Those are the three main, common failure points...big deal...Odds are you'll enjoy the truck for a long while before they give you an issue.

I lied. I do have issues. I just hid them so well from myself that I forgot they were issues.
1. Primary Radiator been leaking last 1500 miles - will fix this summer, leak is growing EST$1800
2. DEF sender has broken for last 6000 miles - Must keep tank above 2/3 full or CEL is triggered EST$1000 or delete
3. Evaporator core went out fall 2015 - Fixed Summer 2016 - $1300

That's all I can think of....other than that, its been pretty good. Honestly for the money sunk in these trucks these kinds of problems shouldn't be an issue, especially at only 150-160k, but that's just my opinion. My last vehicle (a chevy gasser) I put 273K on before the 4L60E took a dump and the main bearing(s) spun (5.3 vortec). All it ever had was an alternator replacement and oil changes. I never changed the tranny fluid in 273k miles. And to see more and more vehicles, even gassers, be able to attain that kind of lifespan when taken care of, kind of bumms me out when I see my truck (which was albeit bought second hand) at only 160k needing several thousand dollars sunk into it.

Other than that, it's been a real good truck all-in-all.

I have been thinking about this for the past few weeks. Is it better to buy a higher mileage used Powerstroke so that the issues have most likely been sorted already? I started my search looking at low mileage trucks. Perhaps I need to rethink.

My 2011 just rolled over 178k. It is an early job 1 run, built in Sept "10 and I picked it up in Nov '12 with 92k. The only things that I have had to do is replace the alternator because it was telling the truck it wasn't charging at the proper voltage(170k). I replaced the trans fluid because the trans would run really hot and would take a long time to cool down, in city traffic I would see temps of 215(140k). I changed the radiator because it was weeping and I was scared it would fail when I was on a road trip(155k). I had to replace a belt tensioner because the bearing went out(168k). I upgraded to the 2015 turbo, just because I wanted to (155k). There are some items that fell off (102K). I am going to have to pull the door panels because they are starting to rattle and it drives me crazy. Overall this truck has been really good to me and I am planning on keeping it for a while longer.

Awesome! This is exactly what I was hoping to hear! There's too many "my truck is broken again" posts all over the forum. Rarely hear about the trucks that do insane miles and work hard without issues.

Also, you mentioned a 2015 turbo conversion, I'm looking at doing that as well. I linked my thread below, you mind shooting over there and sharing your kit info and experience?

Early 2011 and just turned 196k miles. Best truck i've owned coming from 2 chevy's and a dodge. Over those miles out of pocket repairs has been less then $400. I had the horn fail and the cold air plastic pipe. Everything else was mods or wear and tear items like brakes and tires etc. My interior leather has held up really well and the whole truck has worn really well. The truck runs clean and looks good after all those miles. It's been modified and tuned with a 8" lift on 37's and get's 15 MPG. The stock turbo has been protected from overspeed thru my tuner and I don't drive it like a teenager but rather pull tractors and haul gravel around the farm type thing. I was thinking about selling it but asked myself why I would sell the most reliable truck I've ever owned? If something was going to fail it would have already! ha ha. There's my 2 cents. I posted a recent pic.

Got a early build 2011 with 170k on it currently. I picked it up a 2 years ago with roughly 140k on it. It had a new engine and turbo installed by Ford at 130k. Truck is solid and hoping to put another 100k on it.

I have a '14 with 184k on it and climbing daily. I gave owned since 100k. Still stock exhaust, has a banks automind tune and an s&b cai, and 35" tires on 18" eagle alloy wheels. I've replaced the primary radiator recently because it was weeping, but aside from that no real issues. I change oil and filters every 5-6,000 for engine, every 10k for fuel. I've been using caseih akcela oil (my older brother works for the dealership, and if it's good enough for $50-60k engines it should be good enough for mine) and either Hastings or Baldwin filters, and power services diesel additives. Regens have been consistently right at the 500 mile mark and no typewriter tick yet. The deer population has exploded around here so she's getting a go rhino deer catcher this week. I'll include a pic

I have a 2011 F350 (01/11 build). Purchased in Tx. 2014 with 97K. As of now it has 114K. Had to replace the radiator, coolant line to the turbo. The turbo was replaced last month. I had a DEF reductant heater code pop up, then decided to do a full delete. As of now the truck runs better than when I purchased it. Although it's tuned, and I keep it on the performance setting (Tyrant tunes) I still drive it like a baby, as I drive all my vehicles.

P.S. I'll say one thing, reading some post will drive you crazy thinking about some of the issues/problems that could occur with the truck. Overall, I would own no other truck except a Ford.

I have a 2011 F250 that is an early build (06/10 build). I bought it in 2013 with 47K. I am now at 196K with no major repairs. I had the normal DEF and emissions problems so i lost the emissions weight at around 110K and I replaced the passenger wheel bearing hub at 120k.

Now i noticed my front U Joints are bad and also ball joints and tie rod ends have a little play in them. So i am replacing all of that this weekend. This is all normal maintenance at 200k in my opinion. I am also putting new shocks and the drivers side wheel bearing hub just because its at 196k miles and I will already have it torn down so why not.

I've been kinda lamenting that I've started a fresh set of New-truck size and length of payments on a 2015 w/58K miles when I got it. At the rate I put miles on it I'll likely have about 170k on it when I finish paying for it. My planned towing is only occasional in the 15k lbs range and daily 40 mile round trip commutes to work.
This thread has certainly helped alleviate my concerns.

Thanks guys :)

We sell tons of high mileage (over 200k) 6.7s

Compared to high mileage ram and gm products, we see significantly less issues with the 6.7 powerstrokes. We stopped selling higher mileage duramax and ram products because of all the things that go wrong at higher mileage. Nothing major, but they will nickle and dime you to death. The powerstrokes with higher mileage rarely leak and we never see them with major issues. These trucks seem to love the mileage.

Something that doesn't get talked about as much is interior quality. The ford interiors really hold up incredibly well compared to the competition. The leather is more durable, the door trim panels don't fall off, it's a whole different ballgame.

^^^^ Great response!!

I'm new owner to a 2016 Lariat that I picked up in Alabama mid-January 2018 @ 58k. I currently have 73k and climbing daily. Only issue to date was a CEL showing P0170, which was addressed by local dealer with PCM re-flash under PTW. Otherwise, no issues. Stock truck minus a S&B intake.

Additionally, I'm religious about maintenance and where I purchase fuel. Occasionally, I'll sample prior to pumping and have been known to leave a station empty tanked. I run an additive for good measure and keep fuel filters in bed box to be safe.

To piggyback above quote; while shopping the market, I test drove plenty of Ram, Chevy, and GMC 2500's with similar mileage to my current truck. Chevy/GMC had next best interior. Interior quality played an important role in my purchase, as I'm OCD about cleanliness and overall fit-finish.

I am looking at trucks in Florida. They are extremely expensive here with the booming construction economy. I saw a very nice, extremely tight suspension, transmission,. Very well maintained 2012 F250 Lariat 4WD Crewcab with 165,000 miles. The lot won't budge below $30K. I have shopped a lot and I do not see much any cheaper unless I go to a prior generation truck or I get one in an XL or XLT model. Engine runs smoother than my gas engine and turbo sounds great. Has had impeccable maintenance. I have seen and read a folder with every single maintenance record from the prior single owner of the truck and I have spoken to the prior owner and he had no complaints with the truck. Traded it in for a 2017. Has had radiator replaced and the AC compressor replaced. Also maintenance records show a Ford Dealer replaced EGT Sensor at about 75,000 miles. Factory exhaust, DEF, DPF all still in place. It just seems hard to part with that kind of money for a truck with 165,000 miles wondering what might break but it is also hard to justify the $75,000 and up they are selling for new. Not worried about something small to medium cost going out but I would really hate losing an engine to a failure. Is 165,000 crazy to think about purchasing? Is pricing about average?

Sounds like a nice truck at a reasonable price. How are the engine hours? Should be less than 6,000 hrs and less than 1,500 idle hrs. if driven typically. Even if it is a little higher with all those pristine maint. records I would not be afraid of it.

I bought my 2012 F350 Lariat for not a lot less with 275,500 miles; 5,173 hrs/ 570 idle hrs. Still looks nearly new.

I bought my 2014 F250 6.7 brand new. I currently have 135k miles. The only upgrades I’ve done on the truck is installing HID headlights. I have been averaging 1100 miles/week for almost a year now. I just experienced my first breakdown. Truck gave me the CEL and reduced engine power and broke down on the road leaving me in the median of an extremely busy interstate in work traffic and would not start. Towed it to the mechanic and confirmed my suspicion that the HPFP failed and threw metal through the injectors. Its in the process of being fixed now. Other than that, I’ve had 135k trouble free miles. I am contemplating installing the 2017 model turbo upgrade kit while the injectors are being replaced but have been indecisive about just waiting until the original fails. I plan on a dpf/egr delete soon. Very happy with the truck thus far, however this does leave me thinking what else could fail in the near future.

I have 162k on my 2011 with no issues. The stock turbo has been replaced. I replaced the radiator and the AC core under the dash. Fully deleted with a tyrant performance/race tune on it daily. Change the oil every 5k miles with full synthetic and change the fuel filters every 10k. Only run Shell brand diesel fuel.

Truck runs fantastic with no signs of issue.
