Need some help.
I have a 2000 F350 and the parking brake light in the dash stays on and never goes off. It is driving me crazy. Been like this for 6 months. It showed up after I replaced my brakes and flushed my break fluid at all 4 corners. Here is what happens, I turn key on and all dash lights come on and go through there checks and they all go off except my parking brake light then the stupid buzzer dings for about 1500 feet then stops buzzing and light is still on. ABS light does not stay on. So I checked and wiggled my parking brake and it is fine. I also have a AE scan tool and it shows that the parking brake, brake lamp switch at the pedal, and the Brake pressure switch are all working as should. AE scan tool also does not find any trouble codes with the brake system. This is got me stumped and making me crazy listening to the buzzer every time i turn my truck on. Anyone know or have had this happen? Thank you

Unplug the ebrake switch. They are known to go bad from having the pedal slam into them

Have you physically checked the E-brake switch? Meaning with the brake set, push on the switch to see if the light goes out?

Another thought - Will the light set if the proportioning valve in the brake system is not where it needs to be? I don't know, just asking.

How do I check the proportioning valve??

Also every once in a while I'll be driving with the cruise control on and then all of a sudden it will kick off and not work for a day or so then it will work for a while then do the same thing. Not sure if its related or a whole separate issue. Thanks for the replies

There is a recall on a switch in the master cylinder that affects the cruise. They won't replace it though.

proportioning valves has nothing to do with the parking brake. parking brakes on these trucks are a completely different set of brake shoes that are hidden inside the rear rotor. most likely the switch on the pedal.

Absolutely no argument. However, the warning light indicates more that the parking brakes.

From the OM for my '01:
"Brake system warning Momentarily illuminates when the ignition is turned to the ON position to indicate a system check. Also illuminates if the parking brake is engaged. If the brake warning lamp does not illuminate at these times, seek service immediately. Illumination after releasing the parking brake indicates low brake fluid level and the brake system should be inspected immediately."

The dash warning light being on when the PB is released indicates something else is wrong, which is why the OP posted in the first place. I brought up the proportioning valve as a "out there" thought. My thinking, at the time, was since the OP just did brakes and a line flush, is it possible the PV is not centered causing the light as one possible point of problem. Do I know for sure? Nope. Could I be wrong? Phhhh....yeah!!!

I had a deal like this in an Olds a couple times. we put 300,000 on it, the brake fluid got dirty enough to fool the fluid level switch. check the color of your fluid and the inside of the reservoir. I cleaned the inside of the reservoir and changed the fluid. Turned the light off both times.

The fluid was dirty looking when I changed the brakes so I went ahead and flushed the system. I hooked up a vacuum pump to one brake caliper at a time till the fluid at each wheel was clear. While doing this I made sure to keep the reservoir full. After my brakes were soft feeling so I bleed each wheel again till it was firm. Everything felt great. Right after the flush the dash (P) break light would come on and off intermittently. Then it came on and stayed on. Been on ever since. Breaks feel good and they seem to be working as they should. I'm sure I screwed something up when I flushed but can not figure out what. With my Autoenginety scan tool I was able to check and test the parking brake switch, the brake pedal switch, the brake applied switch, and the fluid res switch. They all checked out good on the AE tool. Not sure what I did.
How do I check the proportioning valve? Sounds like it might be it.
Thank you for all your replies. Getting closer I think....

Pulled this from another site.

pressure for the brake fluid is controlled by the ABS unit on your vehicle and doesnt have a traditional proportioning valve:

The 4-Wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is an electronically operated, all wheel brake control system. Major components include the power brake booster, master cylinder, the wheel speed sensors, and the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) which contains the control module, a relay, and the pressure control valves.
The system is designed to retard wheel lockup during periods of high wheel slip when braking. Retarding wheel lockup is accomplished by modulating fluid pressure to the wheel brake units. When the control module detects a variation in voltage across the wheel speed sensors, the ABS is activated. The control module opens and closes various valves located inside the HCU. These valves, called dump and isolation valves, modulate the hydraulic pressure to the wheels by applying and venting the pressure to the brake fluid

Great info on the brake and abs system. Thank you.

Doing more inspection I noticed fluid leaking where the brake pedal shaft goes into the hydroboost. Its not enough to get onto my carpet but it is definitely leaking. Not sure if this will cause my dash light to be on but I need to get a new hydroboost before it get worse.
