Guys -

I have not had to do anything previously to the front end on my truck, so all this is new to me. I want to confirm a few things before ordering parts.

2009 F250 CCSB 4x4 with stock suspension set up
115K miles

I've developed a clunking on left and right turns at low speed that you can feel under your feet on driver and passenger side.

I lifted the front off the ground and tried to move everything. The only thing I can find that has play is the bar that runs from the passenger side knuckle to the driver side knuckle - not the rod that runs from the pitman arm to the passenger side - the one below it.

I've put a video on youtube of the play in the joint on the passenger side. It is under ericinboca and called "Play in front end"

Couple of questions -
Is this too much play? It did not take much effort to move the bar.

And what parts do i need?
I think I need:
* drag link end, outer tie rod, right
* inner tie rod, right
* outer tie red, left
If the parts diagram shows in the thread, that's parts number 9, 5 and 6.

Any other thoughts or advice??

Thanks.

Thanks guys.
I did all the tie rod ends, sway bar bushings, drop links and while in there, replaced the factory steering damper with a Bilstein.

I basically found that the tie rod ends, the drag link bushing and the drop links, all had some play in them - some worse than others. Everything is real tight now, and no more clunking.

Not too difficult a repair either with a pickle fork on an air hammer. I marked the lengths of the arms on my garage floor, put the new ends on, use the marks, and reinstalled - no alignment needed.

Awesome and thanks for the update. My 08 isn’t a daily driver but I take it for a spin when I can so I don’t get horribly annoyed.... until I take that spin - a few hundred miles usually. Smooth highway and I get no clunk or vibration but slight divets and I’m quickly reminded of the work needing to be done.

I’ll likely tackle the same items you’ve listed.

Were you able to find a front end ‘kit’ of sorts? Rock auto recently stopped supplying doorman parts due to dormant demands of ‘electronic pricing agreements’ and the only complete kit I was able to find during a quick search was that of doorman - now offered by another site for what I thought to be quite expensive. I plan to call rock auto and see if they can piece a ‘kit’ together for me and possibly apply a discount but I’m not holding my breath.

Thanks again

I did all OEM, and got all the parts individually, not in a kit. I think Moog has a kit, and with Moog I think you get grease fittings. I have no clue if Moog is better, on par or worse than OEM.

I got:
Outer Tie Rod, RIGHT HC3Z-3A131-B
Inner Tie Rod, RIGHT HC3Z-3A131-H
Outer Tie Rod, LEFT HC3Z-3A131-D
Center Link AC3Z-3304-B
Drop Links 7C3Z-5K483-A
Stabilizer Bar Bushings 7C3Z-5484-K

and BSN-24-196284 STEERING STABILIZER

Mine is a 2009 F250 4x4

Bah I am thinking about just popping for the MOOG kit Front Steering Rebuild Kit | Ford F250 | Moog

Not sure I need all that but just about at 100k and all front suspension parts look stock. While I'm there I am going to do the pitman and idler arms and possible the steering box if I don't find much slop in the pitman/idler/anywhere else. I have a decent amount of play going down the road and while at a stand still.

Will try to remember to update as Eric kindly did.
