I was going to order the MBRP for my truck and run 4" from the filter back w/o a muffler. But, a local Diesel perf. shop tried explaining to me that the cut outs in the OE tip is to push fresh air in the exhaust and lower EGT's??? This sounded wierd but I do not know enough about them. Anyone have any info on this? If it is true, does anyone know how the aftermarket exhaust's affect the EGT's and warranty?

it will help EGTs. Oh, wait i just realized you are talking about a 6.4, I got nothing on that????? The exhaust system on that thing is like a three ring circus!!!!

Someone will be along shortly who knows for sure, but I believe the issue is with the diesel particulate filter. I think when the truck goes into regen, the exhaust coming right out of the tail pipe can get very hot, so the venturis in the tip help cool it down where it comes out to reduce the safety hazard.

Don't drive to close to a Saturn with that thing you'll melt it.

all it does is cool the temp of the exhaust leaving the exhaust. so you dont start fires or scorch other peoples paint while you drive by them.

Drive that POS off a cliff. And find a truck that doesnt choke on its own exhaust.

Just kidding man. I hope you have good luck with this truck. It will restore my faith in Ford to build something we can be proud off. They have all but failed us in the past few years.

I don't think they work too good, It'll still singe the hair on your legs.

August issue of Diesel Power Mag page 192 did a Gibson exhaust install on an 08' PSD that was supposed to lower EGT's. It was a cat back system and claimed to lower temps by 100 degrees.

I saw the Gibson and Magnaflow. Just didnt feel like dropping $800 on a filter back...

So, does anyone have a 6.4 with aftermarket exhaust? What does everyone think about just eliminating the muffler with the stock piping?

Mbrp has a filter back that runs around $270.00 bucks. The MBRP and magnaflow both have the cut outs like the original exhaust just in diffrent places. The magnaflow has the cut outs on the exhaust tip like factory, the MBRP has them a little further up stream in the actual exhaust piping. I will be ordering the MBRP soon soley on the purpose of the cut outs not being in the tip so i can change the tip later to an after market 6" tip:D

Ford claims the stock tip must be retained or an after market one exactly like it or no warranty.

MBRP seems to make a chrome cover for the OE tip. I think I am going to do that and just delete the muffler with the stock pipe. Hopefully I get a little better flow and sound.

I removeed my tip at 1500 miles -- too ugly for me but everyrime I took the truck into for warranty work - they all pointed at the tip and said " thats whats wrong with it, you must put the ford tip on for it to work properly, and if a ford rep sees it they will kill your powertrain warranty" I got so tired of a problem with a low power being blamed on a 6" intercooled tip -- so ford does not like these trucks to be messed with at all -- and they will not tolerate us modding them in any way to make sure that the 6.4 does not get the rep of the 6.0's. Even though I had a 2007 6.0 with 9,000 miles on it throw a rod through the side of the block. And nothing was done to the truck but added a 5th wheel.
I did take the DPF off my 08 and any kind of warranty would not make me go back to the way it was-- its that good :")

On the MBRP exhaust it has the same style vents but they are further up in the actual exhaust piping and NOT in the tip. It comes with a regular plain jane tip with no cut outs in it there for allowing you to swap tips with out any BS because it still has the cooling vents up in the exhaust piping

I have the MBRP single installed on mine. No sound difference from stock-makes one wonder why Ford even bothered with a muffler. I have had to play the "game" with our horrible local dealer about it being installed-it has been on and off again three times, now the dealer's factory engineering rep says that it is ok, that it doesn't effect how the emission system works and effectively cools the exhaust; purely cosmetic and I can leave it on. The dealership no longer hassles me about it. Now if they could just fix all the other stuff that has gone wrong. Love the truck-hate the motor.
