Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knew if the SCT Tuner right out of the box will fix the thrown codes from the EGR delete kit? Also im thinking of buying the ARP head studs for my 05 powerstroke, i heard that if i plan on using a tuner on my truck, the head studs might stretch, is this true?

head studs WILL NOT STRETCH! the stock ones will stretch even on a stock truck. there are trucks running 1000hp with arp studs and they dont stretch ex..ellerton and an edge insight will be a good investment to moiniter temps. ex... eot, ect, and egt's.

and welcome to the ,ORG!!

In all honesty the hardest part about doing an egr delete is getting the turbo out. Those v-clamps are very hard to get off and take alot of patience and persistence. If you are doing an egr delete you should either rebuild the oil cooler or delete it and upgrade the STC fitting on the HPOP. You do these upgrades because the turbo is off and you are already in there. I deleted everything. Looking back at it, I would recommend the bullet proof diesel kit for deleting the oil cooler. I know that it is expensive but they use good stuff. I bought just the transfer block and did my own cooler/filter/bypass. I am tweaking it slightly and by the time I am done with it all I will have spent more than the kit was and just rebuilding the oil cooler is the cheaper route especially if you install a coolant filter and convert to transission to ELC. Just my opinion and I hope this helps.

The SCT tuner is suppost to keep the light off with a delete, but have seen it go both ways. When you delete the EGR cooler you have to programm the computer to not look for that data anymore. Custom tunes will do this, but the SF3 comes with the EGR valve off function which can keep the light off in some cases. The best bet is to use an upgraded EGR cooler and use the SCT to shut the EGR valve off. Then you can always go back in and turn it on if need be. Also you wont have to worry about CEL with the upgraded EGR cooler in the truck.

To quote Bill Clinton "That depends on your definition of easy."
Not many will throw an EGR delete on their truck if they have emissions testing. It takes about 4-6 hours to do it, with practice.
Those that have emissions testing get the best EGR cooler they can.
