I have a double din radio to install and I am having trouble finding a kit to install one in the 99-03 models, all I have found are for single din radios. Is a install kit even necessary since the factory one is a double din already?

Factory radio isn't a double DIN before '05 but it's real close, you'll have to trim the top and bottom of the opening a tad
The Metra 95-5817 Dash Kit kit Crutchfield sells it pretty simple to install
I put in a metra kit. you WILL have to cut the top and bottom like mentioned above. This is my hack job that i did for test fitting. After that i grinded it flat and it looks factory.
The 99-03s use a double din adapter for a normal deck but if you want the touchscreen stuff they also sell that dinnadapter too. When your ordered a stereo and speakers they give you the adapters and wireharness free.
Used them on 4 vehicles so far and flawless. From my 99 f250- wife’s 09 Subaru etc
Its relatively simple. watch a youtube video and do what i did. hack job to see if it'll fit, then smooth everything down and plop it in there. Take you time and just make sure you don't trim to much or catch something you don't want to.
I can be done as others have said, I wanted a double DIN but did not want too cut up on my dash, and couldn't afford the installation so went single DIN and did it myself.
