I have always wondered, what is the actual difference between an F-250 and F-350 single rear wheel?

#2 ·
#1 is that a 250 is a 3/4 ton an a 350 is a 1 ton maybe suspension is a little bit different between the to not sure....

The difference depends on the GVWR package you get. My 250 has a higher rated package than my buddies SRW 350. The block is the main difference.

One of the biggest reasons there are 250's and 350's is DL's and license plates. Some states require you to have a CDL and health card to run a 350

Basically it's the rear block that's all. It will visually keep the truck from "sagging" too much to the user. Ford has changed the suspension ratings over the model years and even the 250's will run rear overloads with the trailer package IIRC.

The rear springs are rated the same and the front springs are rated the same on either F350 or F350. Basic truck configuration will deem what front springs are used and the overall GCVW. An F250 with a plow package will have a higher front rating than say a V10 F350. It's not too complicated, if you want the spec sheets to read for yourself I can post them.

This is accurate on the 94-97 trucks. not on the superduties

Well, I'm not sure about the coil sprung superduties.

I know on the 99 and up that their are alot of different "Tow" packages with the F250 and F350, "camper, tow, plow" ect. F350's come standard with 4.10 gears, while F250's have 3.73's, that's one big difference. The springs packs on the F350 are built to carry heavier weights. Other than those, that's the only big one's I can think of. I'm pretty sure the frames and axle's are the same size. Not sure on the spline count either. Hope this helps.

Not so true. Diesel Dually F350's have the option of 4.10's. SRW diesel F350's have 3.73's. We have 2 PSD F350's that have 3.73's. The lower 5 leaf springs are the same and the F350's some standard with the overload leaf starting on 02 models and up and the only way to get the overload leaf on a F250 is to get the camper package.

:thumb: RI is one of those states, you need a medical cert for just about anything over an F250.

F350 also come with "E" ply tires
I GUESS 50 MORE LBS. PER TIRE MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE. lol

guess my 06 came with 3:73 gears and factory 20's as stated before, the 250 has a 2" block in the rear vs the 4" on the f-350. Found that out with my last lift in my 03 250 expecially when I put the leveling kit on it and it sat way high in the front compaired to the back.

As far as the 17's, only some 17's fit on 05-07. And that goes for F250 or F350. It is because of the brake rotors but they are the same on both trucks. My 05 F350 came with 3.73's. Also, as stated earlier, the only difference on the rear suspension is a 4" block on the F350's compared to a 2" block on the F250's. Also...there is hardly any price difference between F250's and F350's. I looked at ALOT of truck when I bought mine and the prices were almost identical.

whats the best way to figure out what gear ratio your running. will the vin tell you what it came with

#34 ·
You can figure out what the axle code means on the vehicle identification sticker, or unless the axles have been apart and someone lost the tag, there should be a metal tag on one of the carrier cover bolts with the ratio stamped on it.

about the whole dana 50 250/ dana 60 350 that does have some kind of relevance to it. most 250 have the dana 50, some 350 have the dana 60. ive rebuilt many of both. and i have never seen a standard pateren to which has what axle. my dad has a dana 50 in his 350 and i have a dana 60 in mine, both r 04 cc. and as far as the rear axle goes the internals r identical.

Not true. The 250 has two pinion bearings. The 350 has three. Call for a rebuild kit at a dealer and they will verify your vin before quoting a price.
