So I was looking into the price of a trans rebuild in the local area. I found a place called Shift Right transmissions. They qouted me $1099 with a new solinoid and a TC. And if I wanted the Tugger shift kit....which I would get also, it would be another $180 installed. These prices do not include pulling and re-installing the trans, I would do that myself. So the total price would be $1279. Is this a good price? And also, does any one recommend a transmission shop in the local Chicago area? I know about BTS and suncoast and all them, and they are WWWAAYYYYYY out of my price range, us Marines dont make that much dough.....Thanks in advance for any input.

You need to read the whole post....:wink[3]: I said that I would be doing the drop and re-install. They want $1279 for a rebuild with the Tugger shift kit.

i would get a 6.0 TC (or a performance one), BTS VB, billet shafts, and cool it with a 6.0 trans cooler. you should be go to go for a wile. you could take all those parts to the shop and have them install them....or you could just do a ZF6 swap haha

Oh trust me, I would much rather have a manual trans. I really dont have much money at all. Im hoping that this tranny holds up for a while until I can afford to get a new one or rebuild one

MI is Michigan right? Im not that far. Probably like two hours. If it was worth driving there, I would make a trip. Why do you ask?

Transmission rebuild

I have had several trannys rebuilt in that price range, although I live in SC the parts should be the same. All are doing fine with several thousand miles on them. We save 400-500 $ by pulling and Installing. Thats how a $2000
tranny job can be done for 1500.00 Ask for a few names of customers If they are good they will supply references.

A friend of mine paid 3300 thing lasted maybe two years then he ordered one from someone online for 1800 but was built like a tank but had to pay 500 to change it out. I wouldve done that myself. But there's a place in Dallas that charges 1250 and 300 to r&r. I can tell you trans shops are usually the 2400 mark kinda crazy it takes them about 5 to 6 hours complete that's pulling it rebuilding it an putting back in. The parts are around 500 they all say they replace all this stuff it's a lie they know what parts go bad. Trust me I know a few trans guys a gm dealerships. In front wheel drive vans they charge to r&r trans and all they do is remove the wheel and pull trans apart

TRANS

i work at a very large ford dealership in wisconsin and i could get you a ford reman for like 2000 and they have a 3yr/100,000 mile warrenty on all transmissions and if you were to ever have a problem with it you could just bring the truck to your nearest ford dealer and they will take care of it free of charge

A solid rebuild includes a bunch more than solenoid packs and a cheap converter. lol.

I spend 3700 at a local shop to get his "extreme duty" build. Its worth the money man, you spend a bunch and get it all done right, never have to mess w it again.

Turns out Im an idiot....The trans is not running hot...I just didnt have the gauge grounded good enough. So I re-ground it to a better spot...and walla, its fine. In the midst of freaking because of high temps, I installed a Tru cool max trans cooler...now I cant get the gauge to reach 150*....sounds good to me!
