Had issues with the Battery Light flashing and voltage dropping from 13.8 down to the area of 12.0. Light shuts off and voltage starts to come back up.
Replaced the FICM with one from ficmrepair.com last month, batteries load tested 3 months ago. Replaced the alternator 2 months ago after having the same issue and another one today ; the new alternator produced around 13.4 volts for a couple minutes after glow plugs shut off and then dropped to 11.8; no battery light. I have checked the wiring and see no obvious issues.
Did a connector test with key off: both the batteries were at 11.8 volts, lead from alternator to battery 11.8 volts, right pin on harness @ 11.8 and left pin @ 0.0.
Did a connector test with key on engine off: both the batteries were at 10.7 volts, lead from alternator to battery 10.7 volts, right pin on harness @ 10.7 and left pin @ 10.6.
I did notice that the harness on alternator only has 2 wires, on each of the outside plugs and nothing in the middle. Harnesses from local parts store have 3 wires.
I am running an analog volt gauge and an Edge Insight.
Thoughts? All 3 alternators were rebuilt but what are the odds of getting 3 bad remans?
