^I too had issues with Optima batteries in the last 5 or 6 years. No one would honor the warranties and they just kept dying. That's when I found Odyssey and never looked back

Im so glad its not just me with the bad optima luck. They used to be good, but when they sold out n moved to mexico, their price went up n the quality went to the outhouse. Interstates are easily avaliable to me and i havent had to warrenty 1 out yet. Ive got like 20 some active batteries in various things here on the farm. So it doesnt take long to find out whos good and who sucks.

While "best" can be somewhat subjective, I would put my money on either Odyssey or DieHard Platinum as the "best" batteries out there. Odyssey manufactures the DieHard Platinum batteries that fit the 6.0L (Model P-2). They are one of the only manufacturers that utilize pure virgin lead and their construction methods are far superior to those of other manufacturers. Furthermore, both Odyssey and Sears offer a 4 year no-pro rate replacement warranty and a 100 month pro-rate warranty.

Check out this spec sheet:

The only downside, perhaps, to these batteries is the cost. They are more expensive than traditional batteries. However, given that they deliver more starting current, have a longer lifespan, can be deep cycled without damage, and provide a level of protection against failures which could result in FICM/Injector damage, I think they're a valuable investment.

I just put in Costco 850cca batteries last week. $170ish after after core with a 3 year replacement warranty.

I had an Optima red top many years ago for over 10 years and through 3 different cars. That thing was bulletproof.

I get the Batteries from Tractor Supply 84mo. version...they have a 36 mo full replacement gaurantee you could swap them out every 32mos. without question from here on out ...don't ask me how I know ;-)

Motorcrafts or Interstates.

Not in my opinion. Deltajohn's advice is the way to go and this is what I have, as well as in other vehicles.

The guy at Autozone tried to sell me the Optima, so I lapproached it with an open mind and looked a the CCA between the Autozone Gold and the Optima - the Gold had more CCA's and was much cheaper.
I agree. Getting ready to change out two optima’s that aren’t even 3 years old. They can’t handle cold weather starts.

this thread is from 2012, but great post.

Costco interstates are 850 CCA, 36 month warranty, and $99 each. They will basically replace before 36 months no questions asked.

The only other battery that might be better would be Odyssey Extreme. 4 yr warranty and 950 CCA but it costs more than triple an interstate battery.

IMO go interstate. Odysseys are the gold standard but not worth $350.

Funny you posted that because I bought the EverStart Maxx and they are price rollbacked to $88 which made them more attractive. That is the price in Western PA so I don’t know pricing in other areas of the country. Still had the $129 price on the battery rack though.

Hey Capt Slug when did you purchase these Batteries? Because I just recently bought mine , think I am headed to my store tomorrow, find out if they should honor that price. We are in the same region if not the same store district. Eastern Shore of Maryland
