Best long block?

So, I recently ingested something through the engine and ripped up the LPOP and through discussions with my mechanic and what my options were I have decided to replace the engine.

He is doing me an estimate for an OEM long block and then to install the ARP head studs which I already have on this current engine and make sure I am good to go as far as "bulletproofing" as you will.... I will be hovering around the $13k mark.

I am not too happy about this one bit, but on the flip side I am a bit happy that I won't have to deal with the issues I have had to deal with on this engine as of late. Just one high-pressure oil system thing after another. A few sets of standpipes, a set of oil rails, and other odds and ends. It's been getting expensive to say the least.

The last straw was when my mechanic was test driving it and lost all oil pressure. He brought it back in and took the LPOP apart and found a significant groove in the back plate where the pumping lobe gears sit and big chunks taken out of them. The theory is that a needle bearing from a rocker ran through it tearing it up. For him to go deeper and find the true issue and make all the necessary repairs I'd be at about $8k, so I just opted to replace the whole damn thing....I am just done with it at this point.

But what I'd like to know now is what are my other options besides Ford for a long block? I looked at Kill Devil Diesel, but they are backordered for quite a bit and they might not be that great....I don't know???

Not all smiles and praise for Choate. That said, hard to achieve a perfect record!

Sometimes, dealing with companies like this, it is best to use a well-known company that sells their products instead of dealing directly with them. XDP perhaps? Holders Diesel?

A big name business "in your corner" can't hurt.

Anyway, wish you well with the Ford long block.

Yeah, a buddy of mine told me that too! Mostly to stay away from them! This Ford long block will do the trick. The shop is also going to delete the EGR and install the BPD upgraded oil cooler/filtration setup I just ordered too!

just doing everything I can to keep this thing running for another 200k miles!
