Hi everyone I just joined the forum because I'm stuck on a question that I never seem to get a confirmed answer on. I didnt know where to put this so I put it in preformance parts because I have recently purchased a 1995 7.3L f250 extended cab long bed. I am replacing the air filter but I am torn with the decision if I should get a stock air filter, aftermarket or just get a cold air intake. I need a filter for it soon but I cant decide because I hear people talk about how even though my airbox has the updated bolts that it still let's dirt in but apparently everything else does to. If someone could please help me on what the best option is.. as of right now it's a project as I have yet to actually get my liscence so I'm not planning on getting a cold air intake yet I just wanna make sure it runs. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

well from what you guys have stated, the magnum flow is better if you want a competition truck or I'm geussing tune in general and me being young I'd what I'm going to do so if I'm doing it I may aswell get the best performance filter that also filters the best. Cold air intakes are a option as I stated. To be clear I WILL BE TUNING IT EVENTUALLY. Sorry for any clarification issues.

Dont be sorry, if you are building a competition truck it wont be in a field full of dust hauling hay or driving around town so do you want to "flow" better or have the right filter to protect your turbo?
@CloverLeafFarms can bring the knowledge

Between all our farm 7.3s and the previous 7.3 I ran, there’s a combined 500k+ miles of 6637 filter miles.
No issues from water/snow/corn-soybean-hay-straw-gravel dust.
I ran one on my e99 all during my drag racing and sled pulling days too

I’m only talking from my personal experiences. Opinions will always vary.

Oakhill,

Riffraff has been an amazing site you won't have to worry about fraud. Clay has been fixing and selling parts for 7.3Ls for a long time and has a great reputation. Honestly the 6637 kit from riffraff is a great option. AFE air filters also sells the BHAF also available from riffraff or cncfab another awesome vendor on the forum.

I have never heard of magnum force ever until now. Not that they aren't good, but I would be cautious. A lot of shops throw a nice pricetag on made in china junk and you don't know until your turbo collapse the air filter. seen it a dozen times when people cheap out on an intake system with turbo chargers. The 6637 kit has been around for 20+years and is a PROOVEN set up no opinions.

A stock truck with even a 100hp performance tune will not stress the 6637 or BFAF filter on a old body style superduty (anything pre 1999 superduty style).

Many folks here on the forum take great pride in helping diesel owners avoid the fluff and choose the quality products to keep their trucks on the road. Do yourself a favor and skip the magnum filter and get any of the following:

1.6637 kit

2. 6637 kit with afe BHAF filter instead

3. 6637 kit with blue Donaldson brand 6637 (better water resistance and made with same material as the 03-07 6.0l diesels)

4. S&B kit (don't know if they make it for the pre 1999's though).

Again don't risk your trucks engine and all the headache and money with an unknown air intake system...

Yes, we ship to Canada all the time. Shipped some turbo parts to BC today.

Best filter on a budget= https://www.cncfab.us/shop/afe-power-air-filter-21-90058/ Why? Because its cleanable. Others are not. So $60 plus shipping and youll have to buy a second, so now you are already over the price of the one AFE 6637 style filter.

Best Cold air intake = https://www.cncfab.us/shop/s-b-filters-cold-air-intake-kit-94-97-7-3l-cleanable-filter-75-5027/ I've always liked the clean look of all of S&B's products. We move way more of them than any other brand.

I use a big-truck Donaldson air filter that came with the Tymar kit. I plumbed a port for an air filter restriction gauge in the metal pipe just after the air filter, and the gauge tells me that the big filter is more than enough air flow for my 7.3. It shows virtually no vacuum / restriction when the big 444 is breathing hard up the hills.

I've never wanted a cover for the Donaldson, figuring it would just represent an (admittedly tiny) extra restriction and would not provide any usable extra filtration. Besides, one of the reasons I wanted the big Donaldson is that I could eyeball the paper element every time I opened the hood to check for filter collapse, water stains or filter breeches. A bare filter should reveal any and all.
