Anyone got info on those new KDD Aluminum heads?

Saw it on their Facebook via another thread on here.

So, any information?

I'm in need of new heads anyway when I re-do my headgaskets - I LIKE the idea of much lighter heads. And aluminum sheds heat much faster - I imagine that'll bring EGTs down a bit, as well :)

Maybe I am out of line on this, as I am no diesel expert, but there is no possible chance someone could talk me into running aluminum heads on my 6.0 without EXTENSIVE proof that its worth doing.

Would anyone have a idea of the weight reduction these aluminum heads would provide? I have a complete spare engine I pulled out of my Excursion and would like to swap it into my 1959 Ford F100 4x4. I understand it's not really worth considering doing with a stock 6.0L, but these aluminum heads make me wonder.

We'll have to wait on Jared to know for sure, but they are evidently made by ProMaxx, so it's likely they are China castings.

Duramax diesels have had aluminum heads for years but they also have 6 bolts per cylinder not 4 so :dunno:
@G8orFord you need to read the story again it does not say when ...it says if they fail
I might KEY WORD HERE (MIGHT) be adding this to my build since Jared is about ready for the heads to go on >:)>:)
Might have to be the 1st Guinea Pig... Charlie Fish AKA @peixinho doesn't count he's not the general public LOL

I'm wondering about the time frame, are these a month away like kdd's iron heads? or are in stock ready for delivery now?

I'm awaiting flow numbers.

I'm thinking these heads, ODawg's cast ported intake, RCD Stage 2 billet cam, KC 2R turbo, and Sinister's stainless tubular headers with a set of 175/30s would make for a strong, reliable setup that's still capable of towing 20k with correct tuning.

The KC 2R (from my research) spools fantastically quickly - like OEM quickly. Get the 6.0 up on boost fast, with minimal air restriction and proper fueling, should yield low EGTs while making great power.

My goal with my own rig is to match or beat the power of the 6.7L - I'm looking for 400rwhp and 800ft-lbs of torque, with all day every day reliability.

Hell, for the prices they're asking for today's trucks, I'd be ~10% the price of a new truck! (That's turbo, intake, exhaust manifolds, injectors and heads for ~$8500).

I'm not looking to make massive power - just match today's OEM power with rugged reliability. Yeah, starting from a 'weak' place with only 4 bolts/cylinder, but ARPs, o-ringed heads, and a FelPro gasket set, I think will get it there.

Mine did great all last summer :dunno:. I just did a 600 mile run this weekend delivering a tractor and a couple accessories one way and got a load of steel to bring back. Was 22,300 WB and 24,500 EB on the way home. Drives great, EGTs were around 1000-1100 (pre turbo) for most of it at 80mph.[/QUOTE]

We’re you above 5000ft, I swap mine out for the stage one, same tune no other changes. Egt drop 350 degrees

Well... I have about 500 miles on my KDD aluminum heads. So far so good. I don't foresee any issues.

I am only pushing around 650-700hp right now... but plan to bump that up to 1000hp later this year.

Sadly this truck will never see any towing... so I won't have any data on that.

hahaha... I think a lot of guys will say that is not "real world" because the truck won't tow. So yes the aluminum heads will hold up to 1000hp, but a lot of guys will question whether they will hold up to 350hp while towing

So they must be around half the weight of the cast heads. That's pretty substantial.
Here is a pic of a KDD cast head with the valves. One head weighs roughly 71 lbs.

thanks Jared
we appreciate the feedback and clarifications . you have a unique situation here and being the KC is your vendor we
are not worried about your posting information and your map pricing

we all are happy to have a viable alternative. now if you can get the wait time down i bet this will put you at the top of the 6.0 replacment head go to
for a lot of places

I can say I have his cast iron heads and they have held up great. Only have a few thousand miles on the build but it is awesome so far

What I'd like to see for the extra $900 of the Al vs the Fe, is a nice increase in flow out of the box - that's why I'm hoping to see a real flow test between stockers vs Fe KDD vs Al KDD.

For +$2k (from $3200 that's a hell of an increase already, from $2300 you've nearly doubled the cost over the Fe KDDs) I'd want to see a *damn* large increase in flow to be worth it, imho.

Put another way, if one wanted to drop ~$5k into a 6.0, one could:

1. Go Fe KDD heads ($2300) + Stage 3r ODAWG Intake ($900) + KC Turbo Stage 2 Turbo ($1700) = $4900
2. Go Al KDD Heads ($3200) + KC Turbo Stage 2R Turbo ($2300) = $5500 (this is my game plan - maybe add ODAWG's Stage 3R intake manifold + some 175/30s to the mix :))
3. Go Al KDD Heads ($3200) + Porting ($2000) = $5200.... and not have nearly as much fun as #1 or #2 above LOL
