Has any experienced the air conditioning only blowing through the defrost vents? It blows cold but something with the panel must not be working correctly. Thoughts?

We sell a ton of them, usually there's a ticking sound from under the dash when it tries to change position

Vacuum leak. If you have a vacuum leak it will default to defrost.

The blend door is electronic and controls temperature, not saying yours isn't failed but if you get cold ac then can swing to hot heat then the blend door and actuator is fine. EDIT TO ADD: don't waste your money on a broke out the box Dorman blend do actuator.

There are 3 hvac vacuum actuators,
1 defrost, vent, floor
2 fresh air, recirculation air
3 max ac heater hose shutoff valve

1 & 2 are under the dash, 3 is under the hood to the right of the hvac box with a gray vacuum line. Often this gray line gets left off.

Vacuum also controls ESOF 4x4 hubs.

So leak, bad pump, or relay are likely unfortunately the leak usually ends up being knuckle seals.

^^^ x2. Mine did the same thing and it was the small grey vacuum line that runs across the firewall.

So got an actuator but turns out that wasn't it. Looked under the hood at the egr vacuum solenoid and the hoses were dry rotted and cracked. Put some electrical tape on it and bam, vents moved to the front and floor when selected. New part ordered and at least this problem is resolved. Now onto the rest of this bank breaking project

that looks chewed on by mice
nasty little bastages i just had to vacate a closet i had used for storage and not paid any real attention to for a while to find they ate my guitar case for my acoustic, a couple old ski jackets and countless old clothes and what not.

My AC is doing the same thing. When I turn the ignition you can hear the vacuum pump running and never stops. I can feel air coming out of this area - not familiar with what it is. Is that the heater box? If so is there a vacuum sensor just inside of that box that might be bad?
to my limited knowledge the is the ac and it sounds like something in there is leaking perhaps the vent is leaking that would surely account for warm air intrusion into your ac increasing at speed as more air is blown about under the hood :dunno:

did your truck leak more condensation prior to this? sounds like a similar issue on mine....AC blows colder at slower speeds and when cruising on freeway its not cold...not trying to hyjack the thread just tryin to figure out my issue.

thanks

It blew cold at all settings just wouldn't come out of anything but the defroster vents

Vacuum pump ON without ignition ON

Ok, I have the same problem with the air blowing through the defrost vents only but "fixed" that by blocking open the floor actuator a bit so I have both defrost and floor, which is where I normally leave the system. I know I have a leak under the dash, so I plugged the vacuum hose so the pump doesn't see the leak, and my hubs work. All was well until recently when my batteries were dead - and upon charging with the ignition OFF, the pump started running once the batteries had a voltage. Anyone seen this before? >:)
