Welcome to the org!

Generally speaking without getting to deep its an IPR issue. (but don't start buying parts, it leads to headaches and a thin wallet) But you really need to get a monitor to read some vital sensor reading. These trucks need a minimum value from the ICP sensor and IPR when running. I.E. if the IPR starts to stick open it lets the high pressure oil pump pressure bleed off causing it to die, and not start.

The fuel tank is another source of issues-Are you by any chance close to 1/4 tank when this happens or does it do it regardless?
Was there any work done recently i.e. last few months?
Any mods to the engine, programmer/chip, electrical add ons?
Any codes, service engine soon, check engine light?

by mitchell icp and ipr numbers are on the money when it shuts off, also notice that when shuts off the cluster goes dead, comes right back on along with glow plug light....as if the key has been cycled to off then to on...but it hasnt

This is not so related but the fuel bowl heater is connected to the power source of the PCM so when the fuel bowl heater shorts it kills the ecm. I would unplug the wire connector on the back of the fuel bowl and replace the fuel bowl heater fuse.

Also Im wondering if there is an IDM specific code. Most scanners wont pick it up and it does not show a CEL most times. If you have a laptop grab a usb to OBDII adapter and download the free program forscan. It works very well on powerstroke diesels and is worth its weight in gold and is FREE.

I understand what you are saying, but with this fuse blowing..then what allows it to start back up? is this in fact a fuse or a circuit breaker?

If the fuel bowl heater has a short it kills power to the ecm. Unplug it and replace the fuse and leave it unplugged. If it does not die more then simply leave it unpugged. Its not needed and only causes issues. If it still randomly dies then there is something fuel related or what I personally suspect a wire/mechanical issue with the IPR or a soft code that needs to checked relating to the IDM

IDM HAS BEEN REPLACED...WE DO HAVE CODE=P0231, FUEL PUMP SECONDARY CIRCUIT LOW. BUT WITH LOW PRESSURE FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE READING 65 PSI AND IPR READING OF 600 PSI.

Mystery truck --- year and model sure would be helpful - and required for useful information

ForScan troubleshooting software -- PC version
or a Snap-On scanner

🤦‍♀️ that would be helpful wouldn't it?

ICP sensor voltage, the pressure reading can be inferred, so not accurate without voltage to back the reading up

I suggest downloading ForScan and using the OBDLink MX+ or the BAFX adapter
Torque Pro would be good for everyday use

the "free" license is all that is needed

Would be nice if you posted the numbers
Post (before it starts and also during the long crank):
ICP pressure
ICP volts
ICP desired
IPR duty cycle
Cranking rpm
Fuel (injector) pulse width
FICM M-Power
FICM L-Power
FICM V-Power
Sync (FICM and Cam/Crank)
MAP
BARO
EGP

Yeah, that was a cut-n-paste from my 6.0 tips, I forgot to delete the FICM stuff

Your numbers look "about right"
are you not seeing RPM when cranking?

not that he is not seeing it, didnt do it...i put him on other job real quick...truck starts fine...starts up every time it shuts off...feel like it has something to do with temp

Dies like the key was turned off or in some other fashion?
Starts back up immediately or needs to sit a while?
Must be driving to make the truck fail?

Also the IPR readings are the commanded readings from the ECM. I would pull the IPR check the wiring, solenoid, and o rings... I am personally feeling its IPR related at this point the fact it starts and dies kind of randomly.
I agree Justin
was leading in that direction, but information on this problem is still kinda vague
finally 14 posts in there is a little info
