I'm looking at buying a 1993 Ford F-350 7.3 LITER BANKS TURBO, in 2:30 mins, so before I buy, here I am checking at the last min if there pros or cons with "BANKS TURBO"? I've never heard of "BANKS TURBO" before. :dunno:
Thanks guys for input.

Howdy 2005F250,
The truck already has the Banks Turbo and the owner says it runs great; I just wanted to know pros & cons about them as I've never heard of them.

Ok, I just won the truck bid :icon_ford: Here it is

You'll like it. I tried to buy mine back from the guy I sold it to right after I bought my Super Duty 7 years ago. He wouldn't sell it a week later and I offered a lot more money than he gave for it. I got to drive it again a few weeks ago and it still runs strong.

Congrats, that sure is a clean truck! :thumb:

Thanks guys.... I'm freak'n excited! :woot: That same truck here in Canada is worth more then twice that amount even with the high mileage it has.

I currently own an '86 F350 Xcab Dually 4x4 with 6.9L and it's a great work horse but because of its' age and living in Canada, it's rusting bad; but I will still keep it.

Just curious of how you are going to get it back to Canada. IIRC, it is in Houston.

#16 ·
Gonna fly to Houston and drive'r back. About 24 hour drive and I'm estimating $1000. of diesel or so. :icon_ford:

It looks to be a banks kit. Banks does not make a turbo. On the OBS trucks, they put a smaller turbine housing on the stock turbo to make it spool up faster and make more boost than stock.

#18 ·
Who made the Sidewinder for Banks that was sold for the IDI's?

#19 ·
It is made by either Banks or ATS or Hypermax. So yes, banks might make a turbo. You may have gotten me on this one.

Let me rephrase, "Banks does not make a turbo for the powerstroke"

They make a compressor wheel, wastegate actuator and a turbine housing, parts.

Ok guys, I've got the truck home; drove it from Houston, TX to near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada for 30 hrs straight with only about 2 hrs break and it ran fantastic. :icon_ford:

One question.... shouldn't this Banks Sidewinder have an air breather in front of it? There ain't none.

No, I mean air breather. There's no air breather ; bugs etc... can get in the turbo. Isn't there suppose to be one?

Wow... dude you got a good deal on that truck... I was checkin' out the ebay post and thought it was a 2wd at first, and thought "ok deal" then found the pic of the transfer case shifter on the floor and grined! Gotta have 4 wheel! Awesome... hope the ol' truck does well for ya! I like my Super Duty, but my first favorite was a '93 7.3 IDI F-250 of my boss-at-the-time. My work van back then had the 7.3 IDI also... no turbos but good work trucks...

Yes, I love it. It's gone in for safety check today but when I get it back, I'll take pics and post them here. I don't expect any problem with the safety as I checked it out myself and couldn't find anything wrong. It's hard to believe a truck of that year has no rust... door jam, floor boards, rockers etc.. are like as if it came out of factory. Pays to buy from down South. Here in Canada, they use lots of sand & salt for the winter roads and that rusts the day lights out of vehicles. My '86 F250 4x4 Dually (I converted my F250 to a dually many years ago) is rusted real bad but still runs awesome.

CD: The salt can be a problem here also, only not as bad I'm sure... My S/D came from SC, 7 yr old truck looked better than some local 2 year old ones...
I converted my SRW chevy to DRW... ran it that way with a utl bed for 3-4 years... back to SRW w/40" boggers now... thanks to the S/D taking over 'work truck' status.
Lookin' forward to some new pics of yer truck...

Finally took some pictures of my '93 Ford F350 that I purchased on eBay from Houston, TX. It's a beauty with custom leather interior, custom hand painted pinstripe, 7.3 Diesel with a Banks Sidewinder turbo, 4x4 and the list goes one. It's absolutely rust free and original paint.

hey thats cool you bought it from where i live. i think ive seen that truck on the interstate one time congrats on the bid man enjoy it. from the pics i see that is an awesome pinstriping job which is a real art. also it looks like you have the factory exhaust..... gotta ditch that and put in a 4'' turbo back system take my word on that one good luck

Yes, cool indeed. I could not believe how many Dually's are in TX; they're all over the place. I will look into the 4" pipes. :icon_ford:
Nice Truck Man,

Reminds me lot of the one I have sitting at home. I must say, you would love a good free flowing exhaust on that one. Don't run a muffler either, they sound great unmuffled!!:woot:

If your in the mood for a little more power, shorten the waste gate rod and turn the pump up a flat or two, that'll livin the old girl up nicely. Worked great on mine anyway, drives like a whole new beast.

Congrads and enjoy!
You are suggesting like TxPSD9673 said and run 4" pipes? Won't it be too loud without the muffler? I'm not sure what you're referring to when you write "shorten the waste gate rod and turn the pump up a flat or two" please explain more as I always want more power. :thumb:

Looks like superduty seats in it...

Nice thing about these trucks is that even without the muffler, they arn't really that loud... and the OBS trucks had a more restrictive down pipe, and benifit alot from the complete 4" system... I've heared you have to tweek a body seam/rib on the firewall to keep it from hitting/rattling, but worth the effort...

Adjusting the wastegate rod will change how much boost the wastegate bleeds off, more boost, more power. I've not done it, others will be more informed as your truck is diffrent from the Superdutys... you've got a good platform to start with for sure!
