I have a 2005 6.0 Powerstroke F-250. The turbo went out previously and I replaced it with one I bought third-party on EBay. It may be used, but it looked brand new. Although I don’t think the issue is the turbo, because it seems to work well 50/50. The boost gauge will not move whatsoever at times and I can’t even do the speed limit, but sometimes it will randomly start working or it will work as soon as the truck starts. It’s completely random when it decides to work. It makes around 20-25 boost when it works. I believe it may be a sensor related issue. The check engine light is on. Everything looks normal under the hood.

So it’s sounds to me like you’re having connection issues with your vgt solenoid connector. It’s a plug in that sits at the top of your turbo

a lot of 6.0 guys use this to make a “smoke switch” where they can turn off the veins of the turbo to roll more coal. A lot of times when removing these on the 6.0’s they side connectors that hold it in break due to the plastic being older. You can buy a new plug at the auto part store and it’s a simple two wire splice if it’s the connector itself.

I can actually tell you the exact code that it’s saying it’s code number p0046 turbocharger/supercharger boost control circuit A circuit range/performance. My buddy has a smoke switch and his check engine light is always on for that reason. But you can go to Orileys and use there code reader typically for free. I don’t know if different code readers have the descriptions different but that’s what mine said on his truck.
