simple math indicates thats appox 15.7 miles per hour so it up to you if the truck isn't beaten up. PTO trucks usually rev higher than idle for PTO use at least but its not a simple yes or no on too many hours. Spend some time researching the 6.7l here on the forum and you'll see the common issues, common mods, and what other people have delt with.

 

How many idle hours? Are emissions intact?

I’ve got 6,700 engine hours but only 996 idle hours. @ 325,000 miles. Stock.

 

Its all there as far as I know, im in CA and the truck is in Texas. But your situation gives me optimism, i used to have one 5 years ago and all i had go wrong was a def doser. I just want to see what other people have in comparison and have they ever had an major mechanical failures

 

I personally would not buy a truck with 53% idle hours.
It may be fine, but at a minimum you’re likely to need some emissions work in the not distant future. (EGR/ DPF replacements) So be sure to factor that into the purchase price.

 

Id agree with greg. Unless its a killer deal, thats a lot of idle hours. If they were during hi idle its not as bad (it probably was, being a service truck).

 

Do idle hours only have a big impact on the emissions system? I have about 28% ratio and so far so good. I didn't even think to check idle hours when I bought it.

 

An engine hour is equivalent to 25 miles driven. So take that into account regarding maintenance.
25% is what I consider the beginning of “high”.
Emissions are the main concern with idle time, but if you’re blowing it out the rest of the time it should be OK.
Just watch the intake/ EGR/ DPF for plugging.
