4" MBRP Exhaust - Muffler or no Muffler? Your Opinions...

I know there have been other threads on this, but I haven't found any input to suit my current dilemma. I got some cash for Christmas to buy an exhaust for my new truck. Currently running stock exhaust. I'm going to buy the 4" MBRP Stainless Turbo Back system definitely w/o the Cat, but I'm still unsure about muffler or no muffler. I want a good sound, but not overly obnoxious. I routinely leave for work at 4:00 AM so I'm not looking to piss of the neighbors either. What are your alls thoughts on muffler vs. no muffler?
Will it still give me a nice sound with muffler? I'm leaning towards getting it with the muffler as of right now.

Thanks for the input and Happy Holidays!!!

Can't wait to get this exhaust on my truck!!!

Are you drunk? I park mine up behind the house a couple hundred feet and even then I can still hear the thing whistling at 3 am while I'm in the house. Click high idle and it's obnoxious. It was cool for about a month now I just want to get rid of it but I don't have the money

cool, thanks for the replies, maybe I will have to go no muffler then...

to each his own I guess. It sounds like I'll just have to look up some you tube videos of each and listen to the difference myself. what is loud to one person isn't loud to another

My 03 screams at high idle. But I'm out in the country so I don't care.. Driving with no muffler I get a spot between 2-2200 rpm that's loud. Not obnoxious. After it 2200 it growls and sounds great. With muffler sounds about the same but the 2k rpm thing goes away. Whistle doesn't change at all with or without muffler

I have to agree that it sounds better without the muffler. My truck has a full MBRP exhaust and it had the muffler on it when I bought it. It just wasnt loud enough for my taste. I'm MUCH happier without it. its pretty quiet until you get on the throttle. that 2000-2200 RPM growl is just coooooool. The turbo sounds amazing when its high idling in the morning. nothing beats mode 5 at WOT though :icon_ford:

I think I'm just going to get the kit with the muffler and then if it isn't loud enough for my liking, I'll just order the muffler delete pipe down the road. I can always make it louder if I want to!

I have a full turbo back system and I'm glad I have a muffler. Cat delete is loud enough for my taste. Still sounds mean when u get on it, but somewhat tame when your low key with it.

The loudest thing on mine is the turbo whistle. When warming up in the driveway, I can hear it inside the house. When I open the door I hear the whistle, and air blowing, over the diesel chatter. I back in the driveway so its practically pointing at my front door.

My neighbor, who helped me install, said it sounds like an F-16 taking off in the morning...oops. And im VERY easy on it. At least in my own neighborhood.

Ok -for a down side- there is an obnoxious drone at 50mph after dropping into overdrive. It was there before the MBRP but hardly noticeable. I dont think she likes that speed much. Around 55 it changes into pure sweetness. Fix = dont drive 50

So TMAG, is yours with or without muffler?

I got a straight pipe from MBRB and if I was you do like I did, get the muffler delete as its cheaper and if you don't like it then add the muffler lol

It's not that loud at idle and even pulling my boat it's pretty tame unless you hit 2k rpm then she gets louder. I associate the sound to an old school muscle car with glass pack pipes. Over 3k is a bit more annoying to me but only time I see that is WOT or towing up large hills as long as my EGT stays below 1300

I'm am '05 but no muffler and no cat - LOVE the sound. She is calm when I'm on trips but when I get on her the grim reaper himself covers his ears and runs for hell. :)

Here is a video - the ricer with no turns signals takes off and I showed my azz too and blew his doors off. Notice how loud it is when I lay it down that the cars in front of me hit their brakes.
And I always preface this with, don't be dogging on me jamming to my 80's. :thumb:

You might want to look into a aFe SS Turbo back kit, it comes with a muffler and a mufler-delete pipe. Got mine thru XDP for $422 shipped. It is a nice kit with most of the hangers welded in place to make install a breeze. And at that price it includes a polished 5" tip.

Thanks - it gets attention but can be as loud as you want it. Seriously you can adjust it a lot. Cat, muffler, short, long - I can't WAIT to hear it! :)
