I fell into the rabbit hole of the internet. Before i pull the trigger tomorrow on ordering a 70k 2019 f350 i wanted to see if ford had any changes planed for 2020, and they do. Truck will feature grill/headlight changes along with tailgate tailight changes, some weird roof flair above the 3rd brake light, as well as some interior changes. Also the 6.7l will be updated bringing it over 1000ftlb torque, coupled to a 10 speed automatic trans. Truck is suppsedly going to be unvailed at the north american international auto show next month. My question is Who here would rather wait untill the 2020s are released in 2019 instead of buying the currant version of the superduty right now. Keep in mind im ordering a truck and they told me i mostlikly wont see it untill march because the factory closes for 2 weeks for christmas, plus normal lead time of 8-14weeks.... i know i wasnt happy about buying a 2012 after seeing the changes to the 2013s

Probably just another effort to get a diesel pickup to drive like a car. My thing isnt the trans. Im just worried about having buyers remorse with the 19 over the 2020, or it could very welll look like straight crap like the 2019 dodges and chevys do imo.

I don't think the 10 Speed will be able to take the abuse the 6r140 can, and it will be more expensive to build.

The 6.0 had enough torque for a 5 speed and the 6.7 is leaps and bounds ahead of it. I see no need for a 10 speed for use in these trucks, but to each his own.

i think it is the new torque or hp rating
ooooh i have a ten speed trans
the to weak links in the modern vehicle
trans
head gaskets
that seems to be the fail points of every car and truck made since 2000 :dunno:

If the new model is being unveiled next month, I say wait a month and see what it looks like. If it looks like an F-35, I’d wait and get it. If it looks like my ex-wife, I’d run, not walk, and order a 2019. Either model year will pull the top off a mountain so it won’t make much difference capability-wise!

I'm a budget guy so either way I would wait until the 2020 comes out and test drive it to see if you even like it. If you don't, well the dealerships will be trying to get the 19's off the lot for the new inventory so I'd imagine you might be able to get a decent deal.

The 10 speed is all about MPG, make no mistake about it. And I'm anti-MPG just on principal! I don't mind saving money on fuel, but not to the detriment of my drivetrain's reliability. My 6.0, 6.4, and 3 6.7s have all been workhorses. The 6.4 was a dog, but still worked hard. All three 6.7s were/are fabulous (2012 deleted, 2017 stock, 2018 stock).

If you're on the fence, wait. You have time and can make a more informed decision soon.

I am impressed that you have the discipline to wait a full year to buy a truck when you have already decided that you want a new truck. It took my three months to find and purchase mine. I thought that was amazing, but a full year. Good for you. Best of luck on your decision.

Dang I didn’t know they would be making all those other changes, only heard of the transmission. I was fine waiting my last truck was still doing good. I watched the f150 ford comparison videos, they do tow tests, the 10 speed is slightly faster towing up hill but not significant. We use transaxles in our off road cars, and physics holds true, I can attest, more gears means smaller and weaker gears. So I opted to buy a 19 prior to the 10 speed. Also I travel and rent cars a lot, and all the 8-10 speeds are horrible to drive, horrible. But I’m sure that’s just the cheap rental models.

I didn’t know about body and interior changes and a bump in power! That would of given me a lot more to think about. Dang. Well It will be cool to see. I’d wait to decide

I think buying new trucks is akin to buying a new computer. No matter what you buy, there's always something newer just over the horizon and you have to fight the urge to "wait". I would just buy the one you were thinking of ordering - and don't look back.

I bought a new-to-me 2016 and have to fight the urge to look at newer ones because they have some little thing I think I would have liked. I kept my last truck for 20 years (and still have it!) and I'm on track to do the same with this one.

Wait and make an informed decision. From personal experience I purchased a 2003 6.0 and was the worst vehicle purchase of my life, but with that being said the 6.0 was a brand new engine that had to comply with new emission standards. I think you will be okay since majority of the truck has been tested by consumers. Just focus your research on the new transmission because that has the least testing.. Just my two cents.

Like a few other's have said, you might as well wait to see what they announce at the Detroit show. At least that way you will not be kicking yourself in the butt, if they do announce some great new things that will be of interest to you. Myself, I just ordered the 2019, I am not sure I want to be testing out the new 10 speed tranny and some of those spy shots I seen, showed some sort of aerodynamic piece on the rear of the cab roof that I would not like. I really like the current design and I am not going to worry if the 2020 unit has some more horsepower and torque, as I feel the current model is a great truck overall. It will be interesting to see what changes they will be making though. ;-)

People should be smart enough to realize that product development is done over YEARS. Not just 9 months. Yes, there will be bugs or issues that develop over time during initial roll-out. Even the "iconic" 7.3L had issues throughout it's life span.

That 10spd transmission is already built, has been bench tested, under going in-vehicle testing, adjustments being made to tuning control parameters....etc etc etc.

Anyone want to see a 2006 6.4L motor?? Proof enough for me when it rolled into my buddy's shop.

MrTommy has the right idea. There will ALWAYS be something better available as soon as you buy.

I build homes and I tell my home buyers, There will always be a better hot water heater. But as long as you get up in the morning and have hot shower, You are happy. The first morning you get up and have a cold shower, You will want to buy a new one. Get what ever is state of the art for the day you buy and stop worrying about something better tomorrow. How many days are you willing to take a cold shower while you wait?

If you need a truck, Buy what is available today and consider it a hot shower.

I would recommend getting the 19, then waiting for the electric true 4 wheel drive that will make our 'beefy' trucks look like dinosaurs... stick a diesel generator in it, plug it in and be able to run it all day... while answering posts on this forum as it self drives.... my .02.. hehe

I kept my 06 F350 std cab 6.0 4x4 XLT for 11 years, sold it and bought my 2017 F350 CC Lariat and am sooo glad I did. It was a new truck, but the body shares the same panels as the F150s save the front end, hood and front fenders. The engine and trans were time-tested. The 17 was a quantum leap over the 06. I'm sure in another 10 years the new truck will be light years ahead of the 17. Manufacturers will always add a few "goodies" to the new model year to entice sales. As for the 10 speed trans, we will see in the next couple years.

I ordered a 2019 6.7L on sept 29th 2018 - it was delivered to the dealership 30 days later. I expected it around Thanksgiving and hoped it would come in just before - I was driving it October 30TH. the 6 to 12 week thing is farsical. you might end up with it sooner and there aren't many rebates above $1500 most are 1000

Ford is pretty proud of their stuff and doesn't offer many rebates or 'deals'. That is saved for all the rest of the truck sellers who are constantly playing catch-up.

My opinion, of course.

I've seen some pretty good dealer discounts on the 2019 f250's, surprised me a little considering we arent even in 2019 yet. $8K-9k on top of the $1k Ford rebate. Unfortunately for me, they arent local dealers. The dealers near me arent offering much more than $4k off of even the 18's. Although 18''s get a $2500 Ford rebate.
