I just installed 35" tired on my 2001 f350 7.3L, hooked up my new SCT X4 tuner and it's not giving me the option to adjust the tire size or tire revolutions. Has anyone had any experience with this problem?

The SCT and edge programmers USED to have the ability to show the corrected speed on the device but never change the trucks actual speedo/odom.

you have a few options but it gets messy....

-Superchips makes a flashtuner that reprograms the ecm but then you can run other tunes....
-Superlift and hypertech make a speedo calibrator but again $$$ and requires cutting wires
-Forscan when used with a PC and the extended license can reprogram the speedo by modifiying a setting in the tone ring size for the truck. You do the forumula to get the new tire size revolutions per mile but it messes with the shifting too lol.

The 7.3ls PCM just doesn't have the right technology to correct the speedo. Its best to just let it be. You can just do the math to find the diameter difference if you're picky. For example my trucks speedo is accurate until 62 mph then it gets faster. I also multiply my odometer by 1.037 if i ever want to check mpgs. I know its not what you wanted to hear but the 7.3l PCM is just extreamly limited technology compared to the 6.7l etc.

Hey Justin thanks for the reply.

When I bought the tuner from Thoroughbred Diesel they told me it would fix the speedo and the SCT paper work says it will too... I'm pretty pissed at this point honestly I would have paid the money for a better tuner that actually would fix the speedo if this thing won't.. I would like to have the speedo correct so that **** shift is back in point as well....

Yup finding trustworthy mechanics is luck of the draw. Had recent similar experience. Good luck with the odometer!

The 7.3 PCM has squat to do with the speedo calibration. The speedo calibration is in the ABS module.

Dakota Digital SG 100 BT.. It has to be inserted in the gry/blk wire leaving the ABS module. The ABS reads rear tire speed from the differential sensor. If your truck has 4 wheel ABS, the rear wheel signal can't be changed prior to the ABS or the front and rear signals won't match. The ABS module computes the VSS and sends it on the gry/blk wire for the speedo, PCM which uses it for Cruise Control, and the GEM/VSS for some calculations it does. The Dakota Digital deal used to be about $70; I've used them. This new Blue Tooth deal is probably more, I didn't ;look up the price. But it will fix your speedo calibration.

The PCM uses the Transmission Output Speed Sensor (TOSS) for calculating shift points. So your shifts are still going to be late because shift points don't use the same input as the Speedo and Cruise Control do.

I had a TruSpeed in my 2001 but then it stopped working and took a while to realize that the speedometer was no longer accurate. I used my AutoEnginuity and a GPS Speedometer app on my phone to adjust the tire size in the factory computer while still having a custom tune programmed.

If you know anyone with AutoEnginuity, I would strongly suggest that. It is a lot easier to do and no splicing of wires at the ABS module.

Hey guys thanks for all the help. I did some calling around to find out what my options were, thoroughbred and SCT were absolutely no help at all. SCT couldn't even tell me if it was doable through customs.... WTF SCT? Innovated diesel says it's absolutely doable through custom tuning, so +1 to them for their support. However I ended up picking up a brand new TRUSPEED from Blue72. Speedo shop says they installed them all the time. 👍🏻

Get your speedo recalibrated at any Ford dealer that has the IDS scan tool. It only takes about 5-10min to fumble through the scanner to get to the option to recalibrate your truck. Tuner will not reprogram the speedo, it just does it to read out on the tuning device itself. The EDGE CTS monitors are similar.

Yes, SCT with "custom" tunes can recalibrate it, but then you have to pay for custom tunes, which is pointless, and you are out more money than what the Ford dealer or a diesel shop that may have the IDS scan tool.

Where are you located? I have done my truck and my buddy's truck (both 2002's) with no issues using AutoEnginuity and a GPS app as Blue_Boosted_F250 has done.

If you are nearby Murrieta, CA, I'd be happy to do it for you.

But let everyone know where you are and maybe someone near you would be willing to help you out.

I calibrated my speedometer with Forscan and the extended license works great. Also get rid of the SCT and get a Hydra chip if you wan't good tuning, and don't tune it at all until you get boost, egt, and trans temp gauges.

Yeah I'm pretty familiar with building diesel rigs, just not specific parts wise on the powerstrokes, I'm a Cummins guy lol.. I got the SCT just to try it and get me by until after hunting season. After the first of the year my buddy will buy the SCT then I'll get gauges and look at new tuning. SCT seems to be an absolute joke of a company.
