Hey I've got a little project going and I've been struggling with what axles I want. I really like the idea of the 05+ f450 and 550 dana super 60 front axle with the larger 1550 series ujoints and axles for the really tight steering but that with the dually rear (the truck will be a dually) does feel overkill. Plus they really only came in a couple gear ratios. 4.88 and taller. What is like to know is can I use the f350 super duty dana 60 which has the larger housing and 3.73 ratio but put in the axles and 1550 series ujoint parts into it? Keeping the 3.73 ring gear. If its possible what parts need to be used?
Thanks for any help

What truck do you have now and are you having problems with breaking u-joints?

I don't mean to say I'm having issues. I wanted the f550 1550 series dana super 60 because I was told they have much greater turning radius. Something like 45% instead of 32 or 39% I forget exactly. It's actually an old dodge crew cab that I'm restoring and I can go in any direction with the axles I can make brackets at work. I don't plan on doing a lot of hauling but rather a decent amount of highway unloaded so I don't need the super heavy duty f550 but the tight steering intrigues me. That being said, even if I can get the 1550 ujoints into the f350 dana 60 but it doesn't change the turning radius then I probably won't do it.

U-joints have nothing to do with turning radius, you'll have to find a wide track Dana 60 for that.

These days There are many videos putting stock 1550 inner shaft set into stock 05+ superduty dana60 axle without any no modification

1480 max angle is 35-37 degree
1550 is 45-50 degree

I believe you can get more angle After you change u joint, at least there are two things that should be modified to get more angle
1. Steering stop
2. Steering gear box to get more movement
(Maybe tire could rub the radius arm
