1356 transfer case question

i purchased a 97 7.3 with a zf5, has a 1356 BW transfer on it.
i do not know what series this combo came out of.
all of the 1356's ive messed with have a slip yoke output shaft.
the one i just bought, has a flange and a retaining nut.

i want to change this to a slip yoke.
as my driveshaft will be short.
is this as simple as removing the flange, cutting the threads off and installing
a slip yoke?

or should i swap transfers?

Afaik the 97's used a 4407 t case

thanks for schooling me!
are these transfers all flange type?
whats the best way to convert it to a slip yoke?

4407 is stronger too and you could swap in a 1356 for slip yoke. Why do you want slip yoke just curious?

this transfer case is in a 63 ranchero with a 97 7.3 and a ZF5.
the driveshaft will be about 3' long.
this will eliminate the need for a telescopic driveshaft.
its gotta have some play in there somewhere.

i was thinking the rear side of the transfer case, i'm blanking on the front side, but that doesn't look right they normally have a yoke not a flange. all front drive shafts have the slip joint in the shaft itself

yea the front driveshaft has the slip, but i dont want this in the rear without a carrier bearing, and as you can see, that wont happen on this project.

Swap t cases and rotate the pinion up for a less severe angle. Think bronco om this one

i saw the picture and assumed front shaft (due to how short) that was my mistake. if you want the slip yoke you need a 1356 transfer case.

those angles are gonna eat your ujoints pretty quick

if you think that angle is bad, you shoulda seen it before i put the 3* bolcks in lol.
yes i agree this does need to be addressed, maybe a custom trans cross member.
i got the engine and trans installed using stock mounts for now.
