Little background 182k on the truck. I have had it for about a year and half. I don’t drive it much so it stays in the garage on the battery charger. Never had any issues starting the truck hot or cold. Deltas have always been good. Recent oil change 2k miles ago with motorcraft filters and T6 oil. The only thing I have done to the truck in the past month is disconnect the battery to hardwire a new battery charge

Now fast forward to today and I go to try and start the truck which has been sitting for about 6 weeks. This has been my longest time in between driving the truck. It turns over strong but never starts up.
I had the dash commander app on my iPhone and look and all the data. Never could find the FICM sync pid so I download forscan
I disconnected the icp sensor and no change. Also removed the cam shaft sensor cleaned it off and reinstalled. No change. Checked the ohms and it’s reading 830. Which I think is within spec.

I have an RPM reading so I think the crank sensor is working. I am going to pull the fuel filter cap off tomorrow and see how the bowl fills up. But I am running out of ideas.

Start with the injector buzz test -- the ficm can still be bad tho

Solved

Spent more timing reviewing the cam sensor and wiring. Further inspection of the sensor and it looks damaged on the tip almost like it came into contact with something. Not sure how but for $45 I picked up another cam sensor. Motor craft at orileys. Installed the new sensor and it started right up.

I also put a bore scope camera into the cam sensor hole to see if I saw anything damaged. I didn’t see anything alarming. Focus isn’t all that great.

The cam sensor operates in very close proximity to the timing pin on the end of the cam -- I think most likely the sensor got hot and caused the tip to push out like that -- I think that would be giving reliability problems for sure.

It is just a coil of wire wrapped around a magnet -- need to take it apart when you have time

It is very odd as I don’t tow much. I always watch my deltas and the truck is stock. It’s not my daily driver so it doesn’t get driven much. And to all the sudden not start after a normal drive is weird. The metal tip spins but I can’t pull it off with my hands. I might cut into it later.

But luckily for this forum and the good support online for the 6.0. I was able to pinpoint the FICM no sync and had a good educated guess for replacing the sensor.

The metal tip is where the coil is located -- if it spins, the wires are broken
Plastic just goes bad with time in an engine -- heat and oil break it down in one form or another

That little bit of red on the oring is a coating -- I have seen that several times
I likely have some of those lying around in my collection
